Rubens Barrichello continued his perfect weekend by topping pre-qualifying at his home race in Brazil.
Barrichello, who set the fastest times in both Friday and Saturday practice, pipped Juan Pablo Montoya to top spot.
Montoya had become the first man this weekend to dip under the 1m10s barrier early in the session. But Barrichello, one of the last cars to go out because of his retirement in Suzuka, went four-hundredths of a second faster than the Colombian.
Michael Schumacher was fourth quickest after switching to the spare car following his big crash late on in practice.
However, the German
will lose 10 places on the grid whatever he does in second qualifying because he changed engine after his accident earlier in the day.Jenson Button was a disappointing 11th. But David Coulthard provided better news for British race fans by outpacing team-mate Kimi Raikkonen.
