true, according to them Ronaldo has scored 14 goals in World Cups, which he hasn't.

goal 7, against Costa Rica in 2002. ;-)

But the ball refused to go in against Scotland in 98 and he got fouled very hard against Morocco in 98 and the ref did nothing, and against Norway we had many subs to rest starters! (no relation at all, I know ;)). And against Costa Rica you could give him a pk for being tackled like that so he would have scored and blahblahblah 14 ! :p

Edit: Ok, to make it serious. An own goal is given if the player makes the ball go towards his goal when it originally wasn't. Ronaldo's shot may have hit the post or gone a little wide on that one, but maybe it wouldn't due to how the ball was bouncing. Also, notice how he scored 2 goals against Costa Rica wearing basically the same uniform Brazil wore against Japan, where he scored 2 goals as well!

'basically the same uniform' ...

The Brazil kit has been 'basically the same' since the stone age.

OK, now we will have:

June 30th
Germany x Argentina - Argentina
Italy x Ukraine - Italy

July 1st
England x Portugal - England
Brazil x France - Brazil

Really tough now, this World Cup is presenting some great face-offs but it's time for the coldblooded picks.

I pick Argentina because I think their quality and technique will overcome the great fitness level of the Germans and their strong forwards, even though the whole crowd will be against Argentina I think they can win.

Italy simply because it's against Ukraine. Their defense will hold up well and they can have some firepower. Ukraine simply doesn't have a tradition (not talking USSR times).

England over Portugal because Portugal will be missing a couple of key players and I don't know who's in their bench to come in. I do think they have a chance to win though, I just put England for the fact they'll have an almost full squad.

Brazil: I am Brazilian and you don't want me to go into details ;)

Argies have a bit more flair and I think however this game is decided it will be via something special. 1-0 Argentina

Italy will beat Ukraine at least 2-0. Maybe had a wake-up against Australia, their defence is superb and the Ukies (does that work as a nickname?) have only got Shevchenko.

England, whilst playing fairly ordinarily and with a gumby for a manager, have just gone about their business just doing what they need to do. Midfiled could rip a pearler from anywhere, ala Joe Cole at any stage, and Portugal seem to be missing about half the squad after WWIII in their last game. England 2-0

I think FRA v BRA will be the toughest game of the quarters to pick- the French are quietly warming up I think and the Brazilians are yet to be really, really tested. Are they able to take it up a notch? Probably. I think it'll be a close game but two quick late goals will make it 3-1 to Brazil.

*disclaimer* I take no responsibility for the above predictions, except of course if they are correct. anyone who highlights the inaccuracies of said predictions shall not be entered into discussion with ;)

exactly the same as Gui, this WC has been pretty logic so far, the 6 world champions who entered the tournament (only Uruguay is missing) are among the best 8 teams.

You didn't expect me to say Germany, did you? ;-)
I honestly think we have a great chance, unless FIFA says we don't, and then there's nothing you can do, for sure it's better for the business that Germany gets through :\

Italy is Italy (quote of the year ;)), history matters in the WC, playing well or not, they'll beat Ukraine.

Portugal lost 2 players, England isn't playing well, but they will advance to semis.

Brazil will face for the first time in this WC a team that actually believes they can defeat the multi-champion, so they'll be forced to play at a better level than they had done the previous 4 matches, but they'll score a goal and 'game over' for France.

I'm going to be bold and say Germany to win over Argentina. I'm even going to be so downright cheeky as to predict the score. ;) 2-2 in normal time, stays the same in extra time, but Germany win on penalties. You heard it here first!

Italy should win their game because Ukraine will get star-struck, plus they're also not as good as Italy (who are nonetheless a bunch of pansies and deserve to get hit).

England to beat Portugal because they managed to self-destruct against Holland and cripple their own squad before even stepping on to the pitch. :)

The last one, VERY interesting... Brazil seem to be on form when Ronaldo's on form, and that changes like the wind. France have thus far been crap, but a surprisingly efficient performance against Spain makes me raise my eyebrows. Even so, it'd be a brave man to bet against Brazil. As has been said, it's been pretty predictable thus far and there's no reason for that to change now.

Ermm so if England beat Portugal, and Brazil beat France, does that mean those two will play each other? Like last time?

If so.. again, the winner will probably be the winners of the cup.

Hmm, if my predictions above prove to be correct then there would be very little to choose between the final 4 teams. Germany would probably be the weak link, but England/Brazil would be hard match. Having said that, England's style of play isn't the best to try and take the challenge to Brazil ;)

An Italy vs Brazil final would make me cross my arms and mutter under my breath about things not being fair, though, so I'm hoping it doesn't happen.

My prediction of Germany beating Argentina on penalties was spot on! :) Ukraine also wasted their Q/Final showing. The England and Brazil defeats were big surprises, obviously.

Now I'm supporting Germany! They're the only other team currently still in who have really made me interested in their style of play. France? Portugal? Couldn't care less. Italy? Hate the bastards. Dull, unadventurous, and divers.

Tuesday:
Germany vs Italy

Wednesday:
Portugal vs France

I pick Italy vs Portugal for the final and am hoping Portugal wins. Not because of pretty football, that is long gone from the World Cup and I think Germany is the one that has been playing the most 'happily' of them all, but I don't want Germany or Italy to have 4 World Cup titles, I hate France, and I think Portugal deserves something, not for how they have played lately of course, but FelipĆ£o just has that star, it's amazing. Portugal lost in 66, maybe they can win 40 years after in the World Cup that could match or improve their best campaign. If not them, I don't know... Germany would be ok to win.

But not France.
