Anyone a fan of the Holden Racing Team or the HSV dealer team?

THEY HAVE BEEN BANNED!!!!!

Read this:

It looks like pragmatism will win the day in the V8 Supercars Championship, which will begin next weekend in Adelaide.

Two major teams, the Holden Racing Team and reigning champions Toll HSV Dealer, have been threatened with expulsion for collusion.

There have been allegations former Arrows Formula One owner Tom Walkinshaw had control of both teams which is against the rules as no two V8 teams are allowed to be under the control of the same person.

Full disclosure was demanded by the sport's governing body at a meeting on Monday but it seems the matter is close to resolution.

It is understood a meeting late on Monday night with the sport's governing body may have saved them from expulsion.

To remove such strong teams would also have had a dramatic affect on Holden's strength in the championship, not to mention compounding factors such as television rights and advertising revenue.

A ban would also threaten the immediate future of reigning champion Rick Kelly and his Toll co-driver Garth Tander.

It would also be a disaster for the Championship which thrives on the tribal battle between Holden and Ford.

To remove two of the leading Holden teams would dilute the contest, and go a long way to handing the title to a Ford team.

yes i was wondering what tom walkingshaw was doin back in the HRT pit at the end of last yr, thought everyhting he owned was sold, and HRT was sold to Mark Skaife. never seen him in the dealer team pit though. interesting

Basically if Walkinshaw is involved its either a cheater or someone will lose their money. Just ask Craig Lowndes and the Formula 3000 fiasco!

It's sorted apparently:

"The racing entitlements of both the Holden Racing Team and the Toll HSV Dealer Team remain active following an agreement with the controlling body of the V8 Supercar Championship Series teams TEGA.

All parties met yesterday afternoon and reached an agreed position on the validity of both licences. TEGA was satisfied that operational, ownership and control arrangements put forward by both teams met with the conditions of the Team’s Licence Agreement (TLA), pending the provision of supporting documentation.

This means that all 31 licence holders, in anticipation of the documentation from HRT and Toll HSV, will be on the grid at next week’s Clipsal 500 in Adelaide and in the V8 Supercar Championship Series in 2007." from V8supercar.com

By the way, Team BOC look very smart:

Laywers to study Skaife paperwork

March 12, 2007

THE future looked bleak for V8 Supercars driver and Holden Racing Team owner Mark Skaife tonight as the wrangle over his team ownership continued.

Skaife met a deadline imposed by the Touring Car Entrants Group (TEGA), the governing body for the V8 Supercar Championship teams, to supply documentation.

But a TEGA spokesman said the organisation had decided to take legal advice on the situation and announce a decision before the next round of the championship, due to commence in Perth on Friday week.

If TEGA is not satisfied, HRT will be booted from the championship.

TEGA has been concerned about cooperation between HRT and HSV Dealer Team, as well as the involvement of the previous owner of both teams Tom Walkinshaw.

Rules prohibit cross ownership or control of more than one team.

"As much as we would have hoped to have a decision today, the complexity of the issue remains such that it will take time to dissect the documents and determine whether they are in order or not," TEGA chairman Kelvin O'Reilly said today.

"Paperwork has been lodged but that doesn't mean that it complies, that is for TEGA to ultimately decide."

Last month TEGA threatened to revoke the licences of HRT – featuring drivers Skaife and Todd Kelly – and HSV Dealer Team – boasting reigning champion Rick Kelly and Garth Tander – if requests for clarification of ownership and control were not met.

HSV Dealer owners John and Margaret Kelly – the parents of drivers Todd and Rick – were able to prove compliance before the February deadline.

Skaife failed but was handed a two-week reprieve which enabled he and team-mate Todd Kelly to contest the season-opening Clipsal 500 in Adelaide.

Todd Kelly came out of the weekend leading the championship, with younger brother Rick second.

**************

Its not over, but it really looks as if HRT are in serious trouble...:(
