ALRIGHT!! the Melbourne Cup of Australian Motorsport has finally arrivied

The Supercheap Auto 1000 is raced around the streets at the Legendary Mt Panorama circuit located in the South West outskirts of Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia. The race has been held at this location since 1963. The circuit has undergone numerouse changes since the first Amrstrong 500. Of course safety barriers and sand traps have been made to improve safety, the most important one was made in 1987 when the addition of Caltex Chase (don't ask me what its is called this year)was implemented to slow cars down over the big jumps that cause a fatal accident in 1986 with a car jumping the fence and into a bridge. and bring the circuit up to world class standards for the round of the FIA World Touring Cars

This circuit has produced many legends in Australian Motor Racing such as the late Peter Brock, Canadaian, Alan Moffat, Larry Perkins, Dick Johnson, Craig Lowndes and Mark Skaife more recently. Peter Brock holds the record number of wins at Mt Panorama with a total of 9 wins, all in Holdens.

Holden have won all races since 1998 when current Ford driver Jason Bright and current Holden driver, Steven Richards. Supercheap Auto Racing's Greg Murphy holds the lap record here with a 2m 06.8594 set in 2003.

When and Where to watch (Aust viewers, aedt): Friday: 1pm - 4pm Network 10
Saturday: 12pm - 5pm Network 10
Sunday: 7am - 5pm Network 10

My views for the race, i think this year Ryan Briscoe and Jim Richards and James Courtney and Glenn Seton are the dark horses this year with their cars. Ford hopes rest with Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup in their Triple 8 Racing Falcon. But of course ill be cheering on Jack Daniels Racing with Steven Richards and Paul Dumbrell in their Commodore.

looking forward to the race!

only four main contenders i think (lowndes/whincup, skaife/tander, kelly/kelly and bright/winterbottom) but many other possibilities and dark horses

love it how no one rates Stone brothers racing here now that mr arrogent has gone :P

As for dark horses going on Tasman motorsports run last year with Jason Richards.. watch out for them.

Skafie/tander is my pick, Tander is @#$%& fast in the HRT commodore and we all know how good skaife is around bathurst.

Lowndes well he will do what he did last year, go out early lead heaps drive to hard and crash, taking him out of contention... or am i wrong has he matured as a driver?

I love this race, its the biggest race of the year for me, followed by the indy 300 at surfers, and then the daytona 500....

Alright Prvisional Lap Times after practice are as follows:

1. Mark Skaife/Garth Tander Holden Racing Team 2:08.17
2. Jason Bright/Mark Winterbottom Ford Performance Racing 2:08.96
3. Rick Kelly/Todd Kelly Toll HSV Dealer Holden 2:08.98
4. Steven Johnson/Will Davison First Rock Home Loans Ford 2:09.00
5. Steven Richards/Paul Dumbrell Jack Daniel’s Racing Holden 2:09.06
6. Craig Lowndes/Jamie Whincup Betta Elecrical Ford 2:09.32
7. James Courtney/Glenn Seton Stone Brothers Racing Ford 2:09.35
8. Russell Ingall/Luke Youlden Caltex Racing Ford 2:09.68
9. John Bow/Brad Jones Team BOC Ford 2:09.74
10 Cam McConville/Greg Murphy Supercheap Auto Holden 2:09.75

In the last minute of practice Steven Richards beleives he had a tyre blow out on his in lap at the end of Conrod and crashed doin siginificant damage to the car.

If the car has sustained too much damage my predicitions arent looking to flash.

i dont like the new diff they run last few years, making the car run on the speed limiter down the back straight, i think that would be quite annoying in the car, and limiting top speed to only 285km/h or so. they used to go over 300.

Last year the diff limited the cars to 299kph. Hopefully we get more of the close up technical analysis this year.

So Skaife on pole then? Kinda missed the final session coz of the delay...

It was a really bad accident though, you could see Porter put his hands up to his head when his car stopped in the middle of the circuit. One Ford was millimetres from hitting him, then another Commodore smacked the back end of Porter's car, then Clark came down the hill and initiated a spin so as to wash as much speed as possible off before he hit.

I hope the article posted above is overstating the injuries a bit and that both drivers make a full recovery.

I tell you what, the Tasman #3 car of Jason Richards wasnt looking all that hot at the start of the race meeting, but now, he is confirming my thoughts of his underdog status.

be awsome for him to win
