Annoying steering wheel prob

Hi, I'm new to the forum, and I think this is the best place to get help on making GP3 work the best as possible on my computer.

So, this is my problem:

I have a Microsoft FF steering wheel, I've switched off all the steering help but when I go to the track it seems that the steering help is still working, I mean the wheel looks like it wants to turn on it's own, like if I try to overshot a turn the wheel still reacts, or if i run over a high curb the car doesn't spin, or the computer keeps automatically correcting steering, pointing the car to the correct direction.

Is there anyway that this problem can be fixed? I think it's a little annoying, sure it helps me on my driving, but i find it very unrealistic.

Well, this is the problem that i'm having for now. I hope that someone can help me solving it, and that I made my self clear enough.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Cheers

Hi Racer#73,

I'm using the same wheel, but didn't get any problem for years.
Please give me more information about your problem, how did you install
the wheel to the game (screenshot of the menu)?

Regards,

Zieli

Hi Zieli! Thanks for replying!

Sorry for my dumbiness, but i don't know how to post screenshots here. But anyway i'll try to describe how my controls menu is configured:

-My controller type is obviously a Wheel

For steering:
-Steering device: Controller A (X)
-Steering Mode: Analog
-Low sensitivity zone: 50%
-Steering Help: Off
-Max Lock: 20deg
-Reduce with car speed: 50%

For accelerate/brake:
-Acceleration Device: Controller A (Y )
-Acceleration Mode: Analog
-Low Sensitivity Zone: 50%
-Brake Device: Controller A (IRZ)
-Brake Mode: Analog
-Low Sensitivity Zone: 50%

Gear Change:
-Gear Up: Controller A (Fire 8)
-Gear Down: Controller A (Fire 7)
-Gear throttle link is on
-Pit Signal Device: Controller A (Fire 1)

Force Feedback:
-Wheels pull left: Enable
-Enable Force Feedback: On
-Scaling: 100%

Controller set:
I use a set(Wheel)created by me with "Control Driven Calibration" enabled

I've calibrated and re-calibrated over and over again, and i don't know what else to do.

Well, I hope this is what you asked for.

I tested a little bit more. Now I tried to make a comparision between the wheel and keyboard behavior, and it feels almost the same. With the wheel I can turn off the throttle help, and hit full throttle while exiting a corner in 1st gear, and the car looks like it has a stability control device on, because the car only spins if I make a very stupid mistake. Even if I hit the grass full throttle(like when exiting a corner) the car continues stable, and I don't lose it completly, or at all.

I hope this can help you more on understanding my problem.

Once again thanks for replying.

Cheers

Hi Racer#73

not really a solution for your problems, but i can give you information
about the difference to my setup:

- Steering Help: 100% (Don't know why but it works)

- Brake Device: Controller A ( Y )
Same as Acceleration Device. I think I've read in some former threads to
steering wheels, that GP3 doesn't support seperate devices for acceleration
and brake. You can choose a combined mode in the System Control Tool of the
wheel

- Wheels pull left: disabled

In System Control of the wheel:

Adjustments: inactive array near zero, sensitivity about 70%,
acceleration and brake pedals combined

Forces: everything on high, activated the Option to include forward / backward
forces

I hope this can help you a little bit, another way could be to search a
possible solution in former threads about steering wheels in this forum

Regards,

Zieli

try low sensitivity and reduce speed set to zero, enter the game in ace mode
and see if that makes a difference:)

Zieli, in terms of accelerating and braking, the pedals work fine, but do you think the fact of the acceleration and brake devices being separate can be related to the malfunction of the wheel itself?

As for searching in formers threads, I've already done that, and actually found one where someone complained about the same problem, but it didn't have an answer

Belini, I did what you recomended and it didn't work either :(

I tested a little more, and another thing that I've noticed was that when I'm going on a straight and I'm on the wrong side of the correct line, the wheel tends to pull into it, of if I try to get out of the correct line, the wheel starts twitching really bad. Or when I get into a corner I turn the wheel and the car doesn't turn, turning really where I don't want to turn. Like I said before, it looks like I'm driving with a keyboard with my steering wheel.

Thanks to you both, for trying to help, and for your patience.

Cheers.

Hi Racer#73,

I don't know anything about the internal handling of the devices in GP3.
Maybe only two devices are possible, both defined to the pedals, and so
the wheel isn't able to work correctly.
In my opinion, test some different setups, it can not get worse

have you tried enabling wheel pull left?

Thanks Zieli, I will try the setups advice. You're right, it can't get any worse.

Belini, actually I run with the wheel pull left enabled, and the problems I'm having have nothing to do with that. But thanks for trying to help.

Well, I'll continue to try to figure out some other solutions. In the mean time I'll continue to simulate some races. I know it's crazy, but I like watching the computer cars battling each other with the levels all the same lol, but sure I would prefer to drive against them.

Well, thanks again for your help and patience.

Cheers

Everything above indicates that although you have selected 0% steering help (from the menus) you still actually have SH on when you enter the cockpit. Have you tried toggling F8 from the cockpit? Maybe it is actually still turned on there somehow.

Long shot I guess, but sometimes it is easy to miss the obvious.
