GPG Nations Cup Rd 2 Italian GP – Race Day

Part 1

Hello and welcome back to Vallelunga as we get set for the race to get underway. Qualifying was interesting to watch, and should give us some indication on who may end up winning the race. So, let’s head trackside as the cars are now returning from their warmup lap, and as the RD prepares himself to get this race underway.

Weather Report

Here we go. The cars have all lined up on the grid, and we are now set for the start.

Away they go!

Grimaldi in the Monaco car looks to have a made a great start, and is already putting pressure on both Briere and Tung in the Canada and China cars. Back in the field, Argentina and Finland have both moved up a position.

The cars are all very close to each other heading down through the kink.

As Briere goes for a passing move on Tung, Grimaldi is having trouble holding onto his position as Kuei makes a move, and Kederer is looking to make it by as well.

Briere looks to have gotten in front of Tung.

Tung however fights back down the straight.

However, Briere manages to hold his position and now takes over the lead of the race.

All the cars stay in a single line with no one trying for passing moves.

Frutiger-Fussli has managed to get by Taytoh in the Ireland car.

Tafuro in the Italy car has lost out from the start as he currently sits in 12th.

Girard and Silva have made up a few positions since the start.

Briere has managed to extend his lead over Tung.

Kuei follows closely behind Tung, but will also need to watch out for Kederer as well.

Hatfield is doing well to hold onto 6th.

It hasn’t been a good start for McGregor in the Australia car.

Briere has once again extended his lead.

Tung must surely be feeling the pressure being applied by Kuei.

Here is how the current top 10 have moved since race start.

We ride onboard with Taytoh as he chases down Frutiger-Fussli.

Cremasco in the Brazil car currently sits in 11th.

De Boer in the Netherlands car has fallen down the order and now sits in 20th. What has happened?

From what the replay shows, De Boer had run wide into the sand. Fortunately, he was able to rejoin the track, but had lost positions in the process.

Domenech in the Argentina car had also ran wide at the same time as De Boer. He also was able to rejoin, but now sits in last place.

We have a yellow flag situation.

And here’s the reason why. Kuei in the South Korea car has run off the track and made contact with the wall. That’s the end of the race for South Korea.

There’s also a problem for Ihara in the Japan car. There’s smoke billowing out from the rear of the car.

The timing confirms South Korea’s retirement.

From what the replay shows, Kuei had locked up heading into the final corner, leading to the South Korea car running wide into the sand and hitting the wall.

Kederer in the Germany car now sits in 3rd after South Korea’s retirement.

Meanwhile, Ihara continues to go backwards due to the problem with the car.

The data from the car shows that it is an engine failure.

Girard in the France car has locked up his brakes.

Ihara has finally pulled off from the track.

With the race now 5 laps in, let’s take a look at the current standings.

Tung now has his hands full defending from Kederer.

Meanwhile, Grimaldi in the Monaco car lurks behind them and could make a move if there is contact between China and Germany.

Paddock in the Great Britain car is currently holding down 8th.

Briere has extended his lead again, this time as a result of Tung being under pressure from Kederer.

Kederer goes for a passing move on Tung, but he isn’t able to get by.

As a result, it has allowed both Grimaldi and Hatfield to close in.

Cremasco in the Brazil car has lost a few positions, and is now being swamped by the cars behind him.

Here’s the reason why. Cremasco had run off the track.

Silvestre in the San Marino car was forced to take evasive action, which is why he ended up running wide off the track.

The reason why Cremasco had run wide was due to him locking up the brakes.

While recovering, Silvestre had lost a few positions as well.

Cremasco is now under a lot of pressure from Poirier in the USA car.

Now he has a train of cars behind him.

Time for our first break. We hope to be back soon.

Team China

Decent start by Cheng. Hopefully he can stay out of trouble till the pitstops start, but as long as Kederer keeps the pressure on, Cheng may end up struggling. Shame that Briere was able to take the lead. Just means that Cheng will need to find some extra pace to try and catch up to the back of the Canada car.

Good start! :)

So far so good for Antero, here's hoping a finish, preferably in the points.
long race to go but we're confident
From last to 16th. Not bad so far...

Good start, keep pushing !

Solid start for Team GB.

Apologies I've not commented much in the last week, I've been travelling.

Cheers Greg for carrying the series.

Good start for UAE, looking forward to see what happens. Waiting in suspense.
Next race we'll be needing a change of heart, or maybe a lot of boosts

GPG Nations Cup Rd 2 Italian GP - Race Day

Part 2

Welcome back.

Tung is still being pressured by Kederer.

Kederer would surely be feeling annoyed, as the longer he is held up behind the China car, it gives the cars behind a chance to close in.

Tung locks up, which may give Kederer the chance he needs to get by.

Fortunately, Tung is able to hold onto his position.

The battle between Taytoh and Frutiger-Fussli continues on.

Keranen in the Finland car currently sits inside the top 10.

Girard in the France car heads the rear of the field.

With the race now 10 laps in, let’s check out the current standings.

There’s a small lockup, and it looks to have come from the Germany car.

It’s now very close between positions 2 to 5.

Onboard with Kederer now, and Grimaldi is looking for his chance to get by.

And the Monaco driver has managed to make the move stick.

With Kederer no longer in the way, Grimaldi can now try for his chance to get by Tung.

At the rear, Silva continues to chase down Girard for 15th.

Grimaldi is now up to 2nd.

Replay shows that Grimaldi managed to get by Tung at the hairpin.

Kederer once again finds himself behind Tung.

The first round of stops is now underway, and Kederer is the first one in.

Nikolov also comes in.

Kederer rejoins in 19th.

Nikolov rejoins in 20th.

Out in front, Briere’s lead is now out to 7.6s over Grimaldi.

Grimaldi now comes in for his stop, as does Hatfield and Paddock.

Girard and Domenech are in as well.

Taytoh continues to chase down Frutiger-Fussli.

Domenech, Girard, Paddock and Hatfield all rejoin in 20th, 19th, 17th and 15th respectively.

Grimaldi rejoined in 14th.

More pitstop action is now taking place.

Briere is held up in the pits as he has to wait for Taytoh to enter his pitbox.

Silvestre and Silva are in as well.

Tung rejoins in 10th, right in front of Hatfield.

This is going to be one very interesting battle indeed.

More pitstop action.

McGregor now finds himself in the lead, but still needs to make his first stop.

Briere is in 2nd, but will take over the race lead again once McGregor takes his stop.

Tafuro in the Italy car is now up to 4th. His pitstop must’ve been a very good one to be able to be where he is.

McGregor rejoins in 15th after taking his stop, and is lucky not to have made contact with Nikolov.

Everyone has now taken their first stop, so let’s check out the current standings.

It’s time for another break. We’ll try and be back as soon as possible.

Not bad from Antero, if he can keep the pace going he might be able to get a little higher, just needs to keep his concentration now.
Bad pitstop, lost 3 places. Have to find a way past the cars ahead and make up some ground.

Exists the voluntary retirement in the in for me?

My performance in this race is horrible.

That's damn ridiculous. What do I have to do to finish a damn race!? 4-5 laps & boom... on to the next one
