What?:-o

On a serious note, the pit windows are too close to each other due the width of it; lap 8 to lap 14 & lap 18 to lap 23.

As a result when a car comes in lap 14 to the pits for a refuel, the car will take enough fuel to finish the race.

It is better to have a pit window of 4 laps and have the 2nd pit window in lap 20 to 24 and maybe have the 1st pit window in lap 7 to 11.

Far as I know, I didn't change the pitstop settings. That was how they were when I downloaded the track. It's too late to do a re-run of the race anyway, and the coverage will show which team failed to take their 2nd stop.

It really sucks that people might be disadvantaged, to a degree, with these pit stop errors, that quite often can be avoided!
Hoping that France are not the victim of this failure....

GPG Nations Cup Rd 1 German GP - Race Day

Part 2

Welcome back.

Silva heads the queue of cars from positions 8 through to 12.

Further back, we find Great Britain, San Marino and USA all close to each.

There’s been a change at the front of the field. New Zealand is once again in the race lead. What has happened to China?

Replay time. We pick up Tung as the timing shows that China has the fastest lap.

But heading into the first corner, Tung carried too much speed into the corner, resulting in the China car heading into the sand trap and almost crashing out of the race.

He managed to make it back ontrack, and now has to worry about Frutiger-Fussli in the Switzerland car.

Domenech in the Argentina car was able to move up to 2nd as a result of Tung’s off, and now finds himself in a good position to challenge Dixon for the race lead.

As we focus in on Switzerland who is now sitting in 3rd, the timing shows that we have another yellow flag situation.

And here is the reason why. Keranen in the Finland car has stopped on the track, with the front left wheel missing. Meanwhile, Tafuro ends up hitting the wheel due to having nowhere to go, but whether or not the Italy car has suffered damage from the hit remains to be seen.

From what the replay shows, Keranen went into the first corner with too much speed in the same way that Tung went in earlier.

But unlike the China car, the Finland car ended up hitting the wall pretty hard, causing the front left to be torn off, and sending the stricken car back over onto the track.

De Boer is able to take avoiding action to get by the Finland car, but the leaders will have a harder time getting by unless the marshals can get the track cleared in time.

While we were focusing on Finland’s accident, Argentina were able to make a move on New Zealand to move up into the lead.

It looks like the marshals have finally gotten the track cleared, as the timing shows confirmation on Finland’s retirement.

Dixon in the New Zealand car isn’t ready to just give up so easily, as he is still close enough to try and get the lead back from Domenech.

Looks like Cremasco wasn’t able to avoid the debris from the Finland car, and will need to make an unscheduled stop for a new front wing.

Not much going on around Girard at the moment, as the Frenchman currently holds onto 11th.

With 6 laps now completed, let’s take a look at the standings.

Here is the distance between the top 3 cars. The timing also shows that Brazil is in for the unscheduled stop.

Behind them, Germany, Ireland and UAE find themselves battling over positions 5 to 7. This also gives China a chance to increase the gap.

Ihara in the Japan car currently sits in 12th in between Girard in the France car and Briere in the Canada car.

Taytoh looks close enough to Kederer to try for a possible passing attempt.

And the Irishman makes the move work at the chicane. That moves Ireland up to 5th.

As a result, it now allows Hatfield in the UAE car to try his chance for a passing attempt.

He is able to make the move work at the next chicane. That makes it 2 positions lost within the space of 2 corners for Germany, and the crowd will not be liking it.

Further back, we now find Canada in 11th. That means something has happened to France.

Indeed it has. France now find themselves down in 17th, which can only mean that Girard had an off somewhere which was missed by the cameras.

Silva in the Portugal car is the first car in for a stop as the first rounds of pitstops gets underway.

Portugal rejoins in 17th behind France.

What’s happened to Ireland? Taytoh has pulled off to the side of the track, and it looks like a terminal problem.

It is. The transmission has failed on him. Such a shame too as they were running so strongly inside the top 10.

Our leaders are in for their first stop.

Who will win the battle in the pits?

From the looks of it, Argentina was able to get out in front of New Zealand.

Poirier now sits right behind Dixon, and could have a chance to get by very soon.

South Korea is now down in 16th after taking their first pitstop earlier which was missed by both the cameras and timing.

Switzerland is enjoying their time out in front of the field, but they will need to pit at some point.

It appears that time is now, as Switzerland heads in for their stop. China are also in for their stop, and so too is Canada.

China looks to have made a faster stop, and emerge in front of Switzerland.

Both Tung and Frutiger-Fussli will need to be careful as Poirier and Tafuro look for their chance to get by.

The chance comes for them at the chicane as they manage to get by. Poirier on Tung, Tafuro on Frutiger-Fussli.

Tafuro now wants his chance to get by Tung, and has a look up the inside down the straight.

It looks like he’ll make the move work as he has managed to get ahead before the chicane.

Oh no, Tafuro locks up heading into the chicane, and Poirier also locks up.

The USA car manages to keep it ontrack, while Tung in the China car is able to keep his position. As for Tafuro, he now falls back into Switzerland’s clutches.

There’s trouble with one of the cars. Smoke is billowing out from behind the car, and it looks like the Japan car that it is coming from.

It is. Ihara will need to get out of the car as quickly as possible.

Hang on, the data in the Japan car shows that both the engine and transmission has gone. But is it even possible to have 2 failures at the same time?

Not that it matters really, as the marshals are quick to move the stricken Japan car away from the edge of the track.

UAE have found themselves in the lead, but still need to make their first stop.

With China now back up to speed, they now look for a chance to get the position off USA.

And do so into the chicane.

We find Girard in 11th, but behind him we can see McGregor making a move on Silva.

The pass attempt worked out for McGregor, and he now sits in front of Silva.

UAE are in the pits for their first stop, which hands Germany the race lead.

Time for another break now. We hope to be back very soon.

GPG Nations Cup Rd 1 German GP - Race Day

Part 3

Welcome back once again.

We come back from the break to find Argentina about to be pushed off the track by a marshal. What has happened?

From what the replay shows, Domenech had ran off the track at the same place that both Tafuro and Nikolov ran off.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to pull the car up, and ends up hitting the wall. That brings Argentina’s race to an end which was going brilliantly up to this point.

The stricken car is craned away as the timing confirms Argentina’s retirement.

Dixon in the New Zealand will be relieved knowing he won’t need to worry about Domenech challenging him anymore.

UAE find themselves in 6th after rejoining the track, and already find themselves in battle with USA.

Hatfield gets alongside Poirier.

And he makes the move work into the chicane.

Italy has lost a couple of positions to France and Australia.

Could there be a problem with the Italy car?

Silva in the Portugal car has now made it by, and now Kuei has a chance to get by.

South Korea managed to get by, and now Canada has gotten by. Something is seriously wrong with the Italy car as that is 5 positions lost within the space of a lap.

Paddock and De Boer are close enough to have their own battle.

San Marino, USA and France are all in for their first stop.

Italy is also in to get their problem sorted out. According to Tafuro, he was suffering from brake failure, which explains why he was an easy target.

This race hasn’t been going well for Brazil so far.

With the race almost at half distance, and with most of the first stops made, let’s take a look at the standings.

Australia is running quite well, as they currently hold down 6th.

Netherlands are in for their stop.

Kederer still leads, but he needs to make his first stop very soon.

China is slowly catching up to the back of New Zealand.

Portugal, South Korea, Canada and Great Britain make up the back half of the top 10.

There’s been a change in position between China and New Zealand. China now sits in 2nd.

Germany is finally in for their first stop.

They rejoin in 5th, right in front of McGregor.

Because Kederer has just rejoined, his tyres aren’t at the right temperature, and that gives McGregor the chance to get by.

With all the cars now having made their first stop, let’s check out the standings.

Onboard with Hatfield, and it looks like he has gained massive amount of ground on Dixon.

He has a look up the inside down the straight.

And he manages to make the move work before the chicane.

But down the next straight, Dixon looks to regain the position back by having a look up the inside.

And he regains the position back through the chicane.

Switzerland is looking lonesome while holding down 4th.

Portugal and South Korea finds themselves near each other once again.

Poirier has a brake lockup heading into the chicane.

At least he manages to keep the car on the track.

The second round of stops is now underway as China is the first of the leaders to pit.

UAE is in as well.

China rejoins in 7th.

However, Tung is unable to stay in front of Paddock as the Great Britain car is able to get by.

Tung decides to keep close to the back of Paddock’s car.

Hatfield was able to rejoin the track in 10th.

We find Tafuro down in 16th, yet there is a marshal with a yellow flag. Something just doesn’t seem right.

No wonder it didn’t seem right. The replay shows us that Tafuro had gone off at the same turn that Tung and Keranen went off earlier.

He just missed the wall by inches, and ended up spinning in the sand.

He manages to make it back onto the track, making it twice now that he had run off the track and was able to rejoin.

New Zealand is our current race leader once again.

However, they come in for their stop, handing the lead to Switzerland.

We hate to do this again, but now is time for another break. We’ll try and be back soon.

Not a good start of the season... :(

Oh come on... Second race with good result and I abandon both races...

Finally I'm not the last anymore ;)

A massive shame for us today, we seemingly made a spot or two at the start, but dropped places around the lap and didn't have the car speed.
We'll look at it, we'll be back. While we are expecting decent results this season, now is probably not when we would get them. We are at the start of a long and rewarding path, and we intend to be on it for a while.
GPG Nations Cup Rd 1 German GP - Race Day

Part 4

Hello once again.

We come back from the break to see South Korea and Canada in for their second stop.

There’s not much in it at the moment between Paddock and Tung.

New Zealand rejoins the track in 7th, right in front of Hatfield.

Poirier looks unsettled, and now has Girard to worry about.

This explains why. Poirier had locked up going into the first corner.

Resulting in the USA car running off the track and almost hitting the wall.

At least he is able to continue on.

South Korea and Canada rejoin the track in 12th and 13th after taking their stops.

Brazil is in for their stop.

Germany has a decent gap back to Portugal, so they won’t need to worry about any pressure anytime soon.

Unseen by the cameras, Tung has finally managed to get by Paddock.

As we focus in on Portugal, the timing shows that the top 3 cars still need to make their second stop. It also means that China is in the box seat to be the effective race leader once they pit.

UAE now sit in 7th, which mean they have managed to get by New Zealand.

With 20 laps now completed, let’s take a look at the standings.

The timing shows that Switzerland, Portugal and Great Britain have all come in for their second stop.

That leaves Germany in the race lead.

Switzerland rejoins in 4th.

Unfortunately, the tyres are not up to temperature just yet, which makes them an easy target for UAE.

It also gives New Zealand a chance to close in.

Silva in the Portugal car has managed to get by Poirier in the USA car, leaving the American to now defend from Kuei in the South Korea car.

There is now a train of cars forming up behind Portugal.

Paddock now finds himself down in 14th after rejoining the track.

San Marino and France are both in for their second stops.

The timing also shows that USA is in for their second stop as we ride onboard with Hatfield.

South Korea, Netherlands and Canada have found themselves in a 3 way fight for positions 8 to 10.

Silvestre is now in 12th after rejoining the track.

Girard in 13th.

And Poirier in 14th.

It’ll be interesting to see who will finish in last place between Brazil and Italy.

Germany still leads, but they still need to make their second stop. Otherwise, they risk being hit with a time penalty after the race.

We find New Zealand in 5th, but the timing shows that UAE has lost 3rd to Switzerland.

As the replay shows, turn 1 strikes again as Hatfield went off in the exact same way as the previous drivers.

He is very lucky to miss the wall, and is able to rejoin.

He now sits in 5th, but will be extremely disappointed with the fact that he threw away a potential podium finish.

Netherlands are now in for their second stop, which leaves Germany as the only team still left to come in.

They rejoin in 14th behind USA.

With all of the teams now having made both stops with the exception of Germany, let’s take a look at the standings.

The gap between Germany and China is out to 9s.

Canada now sits in 9th, but will still need to watch out for Great Britain.

Again Germany doesn’t take to the pits.

Time for another break, and we promise that it will be the last break of the coverage. Stay tuned as we will find out who the winner of the race will be. Don’t go anywhere.

Team China

The race keeps getting better and better for us, even if Cheng did give the team a scare when he went off earlier after setting the fastest lap. Other than that, Cheng has been doing well all race, and is pretty much set for a podium finish if he keeps the car on the track, and maybe even the win if he can somehow catch up to Germany before they take their stop.

GPG Nations Cup Rd 1 German GP - Race Day

Part 5

Welcome back for the final time.

5 laps left to go.

From onboard the Netherlands car, we can see how close they are to USA.

Germany still doesn’t take to the pits.

The gap between China and Switzerland is pretty big.

As we focus on Switzerland, the timing shows the current top 10.

Canada has fallen out of the top 10. What has happened?

The replay shows that Briere went off at turn 1.

He rejoins behind San Marino, which puts the Canadian in 11th.

We find New Zealand and UAE, and they are still close enough to each other.

Unseen by the cameras, Netherlands has managed to get by USA.

Meanwhile, at the rear of the field, Tafuro is chasing down Cremasco.

As the timing shows, Italy is catching Brail at a rapid pace. It also shows that Switzerland has lost 3rd position.

With only a handful of laps left, let’s take a look at the standings.

UAE is closing in on New Zealand.

It’s on for sure between New Zealand and UAE. Hatfield has a look up the inside.

He looks to have the pass secured, but ends up locking up his brakes.

That allows Dixon to remain in front, but Hatfield will surely try again.

Maybe not. It seems likely that Hatfield may have damaged his tyres when he had the big lockup.

He still won’t give up though, and keeps close to the back of the New Zealand car. Behind them, Switzerland is starting to close in on them.

Hatfield takes another chance at getting by Dixon.

And this time he is able to get by.

At the rear, Tafuro is running out of time to try and get by Cremasco.

Out in front, Germany has been unchallenged for most of the second half of this race.

However, they never came in for their second stop, and will be given a time penalty after the race. Meanwhile, the timing shows that Canada is now back inside the top 10.

We find Paddock down in 11th. He must’ve run off the track to have lost 2 positions.

Germany takes the final corner for the last time.

And crosses the line to win the German GP.

China finishes in 2nd.

UAE rounds off the podium in 3rd.

What a race. It had everything. Passes, crashes, near misses, and very close battles. And after all is said and done, we have our winner. Congratulations Tobias Kederer and Team Germany, the winners of the German GP. However, thanks to the team failing to make their second stop, they will be handed a time penalty that will be added to their time. We’ll have to wait and see if they’ll still be the winner once the penalty is handed out to them. So, we hope you all enjoyed the coverage, and we hope to see you at the next round. Goodbye from Hockenheim.

Race Results (Unofficial)

Fastest Laps

Team China

Nice work by Cheng to finish in 2nd, and taking the fastest lap as well. Not sure what will happen with Germany, so we'll wait and see if Cheng gets promoted to 1st or stays in 2nd. Either way, it's the best start to the season for the team, and hopefully we can stay in touch with the leaders throughout the season.

Incredible drive by the Chinese, considering their man had the car practically in the wall at Turn 1 at one stage!

As for us Frenchies, well.... we weren't expecting much, with zero boost at a track which practically demands it - shame the GPGNC didn't quite give all teams a chance to realise boost allocation windows were open! Oh well, thats ok, we move on and take the huge boost that would have been used, elsewhere....
We will take 12th place.

Do you think that I would have sent the track to Greg if I had noticed any sort of problem??? Of course it sucks when these things happen, the high amount of incidents also wasn't ideal, but I don't have the time to actually watch several races to see if there are any problems. I fast forward them, then check the amount of retirements, and the pitstops in the race chart. As they looked fine to me, and Hockenheim normally doesn't produce as much incidents as we had in this race, I decided that the settings were fine. Go ahead and do it yourself for the next race if you think you can do better, I'm sick of all the complaining.

On the race, I'm probably not the right person to judge about the penalty on me, but considering that I had the same boost as China, and my best lap was about 1s slower, I think the time lost on track and the time gained by only stopping once were pretty much equal. I'd like to have everyone's suggestion on this matter.
