Depends what you want to improve really: frame rate, graphic quality or what? I found a few examples here on the forum and settled on the one that worked best. Which one that was, I've no idea, but compared to yours, my f1graphics file is not giving as much CPU time to the mirror views, ie rain etc. Also, IIRC, in the main view I switched from anisotropic texture filter quality to bilineaby Noog - Grand Prix 4
QuoteSDI @Noog: note that desc51/desc52 and BRMin/BRMax work like a range, like the VAR values. The CC brakes more consistently if the range is small. Yes, thank you. That expresses it better and explains more clearly why the effect is only noticeable some of the time. QuoteSDI Also, these values are signed. You can directly use negative values in performance files, but in the magic data thby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Apologies for another long post. Hope it's worthwhile... @ TomMK That's useful Tom, thanks. That'll be making it's way into my cmagic4.ini file shortly. One thing that I THINK might be outdated though is desc51 and desc52. René's Braking Range Minimum and Braking Range Maximum seems (from my limited testing) to give more insight into what's going on. @ René. I was going to raise this as an issue but I thought I'd run it by you in this thread first. I'd like to be able to change the default damage model to make the cars more fragile. As I understand it (which might not be very well) there are two options: 1. Use GP4 Tweak - but this is imprecise, ie 40%, 30% etc. 2. Use CSM to load xxxxdamage.ini - this is more precise, butby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Absolutely fantastic René. Thanks. I just did a quick test using the Error Chance facility and it worked even better than I anticipated. The multi-PF selector is a nice time saver too. Excellent work. Thanks.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Thanks René. I've been experimenting with BRMin/BRMax. It's early days, but in particular I'm finding the effects of a fairly subtle BRMax (like +2000) very interesting.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
This is an excellent series so far and I'm looking forward to the next one very much. You have a great presentation style and it's always great to observe someone who clearly knows his stuff. Thank you.by Noog - Grand Prix 4

René - just quickly. Looked through that PF PaZa8523 posted above and I noticed Grip=17600 I've not seen that before. Is there a post somewhere that lists all the current options within a PF please?by Noog - Grand Prix 4
What a great update! Very much looking forward to experimenting with the braking range later & the autosave/quicksave is so beautifully implemented it's hard to imagine GP4 without it already! Thanks for getting it out so quickly after the last release too. Impressive stuff. That said, if I were impertinent enough to make a wish at this point, it would be that there would be aby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Nice one! Will be giving it a go later. Thanks.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
QuoteSDI @Noog: 109227 would be correct, but the maximum value is 65535 (the values are 16 bits). So under 25% race length a 100% failure value can't work properly? How interesting, as always.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
@ Turbo Lover Well that gets my vote. That would be a real treat! Any chance you might talk us through how you'd go about that too? I'd love to learn track editing but I just don't get it; especially CC lines. @ René Ah-ha! Yes of course. 16384. I remember now. It WAS that originally in the spreadsheet. I must have changed it a long time ago and forgot I did it. My thiby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Failure rates and retirements. If a car always retires and you want to change that, open the appropriate PF, find the team you want to change and adjust the failure probability. Look at the values the other teams are using and base an estimate on that if you like (staying within the range 0 to 24578 for a race length of 100%, according to PRBlanco's v1.2 spreadsheet). @ quickslick - I've never used the GP4 Failure Editor tool, but looking at the help file I wouldn't have thought so. It's more for editing saved games isn't it? The performance files have already finished their work by then.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Quotelandex Yes, the cars are more reliable than in the classic era 60s to middle 90s. But i dont know why, i like that. And the mods released are really great. Only the car failure dont seams to fit in some mods. I like it too. When you say the failure doesn't fit, do you mean that the total number of failures for a driver is very different to what it was in real-world, or do you meanby Noog - Grand Prix 4

It might sound impressive but it's getting harder and harder to work on. I keep forgetting how it works and it takes me twenty minutes to get my head around it all again. The worst part is, I keep thinking it would be better to re-design the whole thing from scratch with an emphasis on user-friendliness and with the mechanical aspects kept out of sight: meaning that the user makes a few seleby Noog - Grand Prix 4

Not satisfied? Looks good to me. I can imagine that technique being used in a Halloween-themed track, or someone tinting it orangey-green and using it in a post-apocalyptic city circuit. Man, I'm sure glad I'm too stupid to make tracks. I'd never get to bed. Your Chateau Carreras is very cutting edge too. Keep up the great work.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Looking good, nice dat. What is that haze effect at 32secs? Is that intentional? Either way I like it.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
ROFL! Think of it this way though Kedy89. Before 'puters came along I used to pull the back off everything in the real world, rather than the virtual ones. When I was little my parents had to keep moving around because if they stayed in one town too long I'd turn the entire area into a pile of rubble. I'm wondering why are some people crashing and others not? I mean, yeah yeah Linux and all, but really, GP4 is almost rock solid for me, except on those very rare circuits where pressing Esc without pressing pause causes an issue. Also, but even more rarely, sometimes on the track I begin losing some sounds and things start to get really clunky within 30secs or so before crashing soonby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Hey landex - I just remembered something I'd forgotten that I built into my PF Calculator recently and I was wondering what you think of it. Instead of using a constant per-car failure rate for the whole season, what I did was I put in a facility to apply a curve. It's an idea I first came across in MS Project years ago. Each car's failure rate is averaged over a season, butby Noog - Grand Prix 4
@ landex - I never really played the original GP4 much so I don't know. I liked GP1 on my Amiga 500, then I absolutely adored GP2 on my Amiga 1200 where I had all the tweaking tools and a hard disc to store them on. I even managed to create a couple of decent circuits with beautiful young ladies and other pieces of fine art lying around (yes I really did!), but GP3 and GP4 never really iby Noog - Grand Prix 4
