Did some testing a while ago concerning the very start of the race, ie the first few metres after the lights. I set all cars to equal power/grip values in the PF and went straight to race start. It seemed to me that the lower the power setting (equal for all cars), the slower I was relative to the other cars at the race start, whereas with a higher power setting the faster I was relative to tby Noog - Grand Prix 4
I've been looking into the .wad files some of the circuits I use and have two questions I'd like to address to the experienced track builders out there. 1. What is the difference between DXT1 and DXT5 compression. When should each be used, and why are some textures not compressed at all? (Related - is there a PO hit when using the highest compression, whichever that is?) 2. When aby Noog - Grand Prix 4
I could be wrong (and it wouldn't be the first time today), but I think TeamEditor edits the .exe directly, whereas GP4Tweaker edits the memory after the exe has loaded, which is why they don't play nice together. For example, sometimes you can edit the camera view in TeamEditor and nothing happens in the game because Tweaker is over-riding it further down the road. Ultimately,by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Schu4ever: In CSM, have you checked the FILE - OPTIONS page to make sure it's looking in the right place? Edit: Played this mod for the first time recently and enjoyed it a lot. Excellent work. Thanks.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Why is it looking for the data2.cab file on your desktop? Can't you redirect it to look at the data2.cab on the CD/.iso? It should be a 168Mb file. I keep a .zip file with a completed default installation for myself so I'm not all that familiar with the original install routine. Isn't TomMKs .7z file like that? I don't have it but I thought it was like mine, ie a moby Noog - Grand Prix 4
Wonderful attention to detail, as always. I once had a friend who tried hard to educate this gnarly country bumpkin about artists and art history. Her efforts shot straight over my head at first but slowly I began to appreciate things I would never have seen without her informed guidance and expertise. Any joy yet Max? I tried to write something yesterday to help you but to be perfectly honest, it's probably best if you can work most of it out for yourself. Firstly because you'll eventually get to the point where you can make a new track run in seconds and secondly because it's an absolute nightmare for me to explain all the things that can get in your way in less than 10,000by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Your GPxPatch is obsolete. Use the latest GPxPatch. AFAIK it shouldn't impact game performance on your laptop at all but it will cure the player car performance dependent bug, which I think crept in to the 4.44 version. Read the GPxPatch > docs for more details/info than the changelog. In terms of your low PC spec, a replacement f1graphics.cfg is almost certainly the single best rouby Noog - Grand Prix 4

Unfortunately it's not something I've looked into. Apart from the results, in a spreadsheet, I don't log anything unless something breaks.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
@ Soutsen: I could be wrong, but I think for what you want to do/learn, you might find PRBlanco's Performance Calculator spreadsheet particularly useful if you don't have it already. Paulo's original offers a very solid base to get to grips with power, grip settings and failure rates etc - and if you add a new tab you can easily expand it to create PFs automatically that you jusby Noog - Grand Prix 4
In GPxPatch, under the GPxLap tab, you have text logging selected and a filename showing to write it into. Is append to file checked as well? If it is not, try that.by Noog - Grand Prix 4

Good point, but that bug only relates to the 'conventional' power setting: Name=McLaren,Cosworth Performance=700,705,7900 - Team Editor swapped these. Sure did. You should probably raise an issue. SDI might notice it earlier: I was thinking earlier. It's always nagged me that although I always set the RP about 5% lower than the QP I always seem to log much the same time for Q & R and it was one of those things I vowed to test one day. Until today I was happy to assume it was the heady atmosphere of race conditions that insby Noog - Grand Prix 4
You're right Soutsen. Just tested your PF with two different circuits; made several changes and tried again. QualifyPower is not being used by the game to determine qualifying position. It's using RacePower - no doubt about it. @ParisHL - Using a separate Performance File for each race is way to do what you want. Remember that nothing in the Magic Data file is car or team specby Noog - Grand Prix 4
I believe there is a lower limit for power, below which things behave oddly. I don't know what it is, but try making the lowest power level 530 or higher. Also, just for the purposes of experimentation, you can ditch the "Performance=1,1,1" lines altogether if you like. It causes problems with TeamEditor3.5 to leave them out but I would get rid of those lines for now, then makeby Noog - Grand Prix 4
My MDs probably wouldn't be much use to you because all my mods have been re-modified so at the very least you'd have to adjust the gearing all the time. Sometimes, mods have a set of MD files included. TomMKs 93 mod has a very comprehensive set IIRC (MDs for many tracks are included). Also, I think there are a lot of MDs some of the trackpacks. Soutsen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > Is there any way I can rename these values at the > MD section of the track editor? I think probably not. I made a mistake earlier: f1system.bak should have read f1gstate.bak. Could you please try that again? ie, delete f1gstate.sav and the backup f1gstate.bak Now, if it still doesn't work, I think I might be out of ideas. But that said, since no-one else seems to want to make a suggestion I'll ask how you installed the game/mod you are playing? Did you use CSM or did you downloby Noog - Grand Prix 4
A new GP4.exe might be worth a try. Nothing to lose if you make a backup, but first, I'd try deleting or renaming the f1gstate.sav. file and the backup: f1system.bak. Now when you run the game again it should default to rookie difficulty, with auto-gears set to on. Give it a try. I think it might work - although I don't think it's what I did!by Noog - Grand Prix 4
Gears: that's exactly the problem I had. I just can't remember how I fixed it - only that I got to the point where I was about to give up - and right then whatever I did last worked. In your case however, if you don't have a mod installed, why not download TomMk's clean & up to date installation of GP4 and use that? That'll definitely solve both problems yoby Noog - Grand Prix 4
It's usually in the GP4 game folder - so if you don't have it, you might not have to worry about it, since it can't be causing your problem. It's not an essential file to run the game. As far as I know there are TWO other (completely unrelated) ways to set rims: 1. Load up TeamEditor3.5 and look under the TEAMS tab. What do you see in there? Gears: Had the same problem the other day with a different mod, but can't remember how I fixed it - only that it wasn't the easy fix I expected it to be. I think you under-sold it a little. The circuit comes with a quality DAT & it looks nice. Wouldn't run first time I tried (in slot 7, which just happened to be free), but I moved it to slot 15 and it ran perfectly. Good job. Thanks a lot.by Noog - Grand Prix 4

After coming (back) to GP4 2+ yrs ago I've downloaded just about every circuit I could find - and once in a while I load up a track that's new to me and I wish I had known about it at the outset. This is certainly one of them. It dates back more than six years but if you've not come across it before you really should give it a look. Are you sure there is such a thing? You'd think there would be, being such a close run season, but I don't think there is. I made my own using bits from other mods and slapped some paint here and there. It looks OK to me but it wouldn't fool anyone serious.by Noog - Grand Prix 4
