An Australian man has been arrested in Italy for an assault on a local man after the World Cup soccer match between Australia and Italy. Witnesses say the Australian was 20 metres away when the incident happened. The victim suffered a fractured skull, a cardiac arrest and has developed diabetes as a result of the incident. He is expected to recover in a few minutes.by gareth - Other Sports
Argies have a bit more flair and I think however this game is decided it will be via something special. 1-0 Argentina Italy will beat Ukraine at least 2-0. Maybe had a wake-up against Australia, their defence is superb and the Ukies (does that work as a nickname?) have only got Shevchenko. England, whilst playing fairly ordinarily and with a gumby for a manager, have just gone about their bby gareth - Other Sports

penalties can and do decide footy games too- I can think of at least a couple of Bledisloe Cup matches decided in the last moment by a penalty (think John Eales knocking over that goal especially) however those decisions were not as ordinary as the one last night it's just so frustrating, having watched the video a couple of times that Grosso doesn't even attempt to make any effoby gareth - Other Sports
Mika's right, rugby is actually in the minority by quite some way. many, many, many more kids actually play soccer than rugby here. and that's even in Sydney and Brisbane which are the traditional rugby strongholds in Aus. I myself am a rugby player and fan, and have been since I first played when I was 5, so that's why I bang on about it. Grosso certainly made no effort to Nby gareth - Other Sports

that pretty much clears it all up! still confusing as all hell though i went on a site (which sadly seems to be down) where it would turn your name into a Brazilian soccer name, and for me it came up with either Mccinho, Mccinhosa or Garinaldo. Nice!by gareth - Other Sports

well....couldn't agree more really. but who cares! despite two penalties turned down, three yellow cards to the one player and a gumby for a keeper, we've snuck through! bring on the Italians!by gareth - Other Sports

some more stats (see I'm doing research and everything!!): most fouls conceded after two games each: Angola 51, Australia 47, Netherlands 47 and the average is 35. Italy and Spain seem to be the lowest with 21 and 20 respectively. Australia has also the least ammount of free kicks given our way with 20, leaving us with a net count of -27, the worst of any team. i see your point,by gareth - Other Sports

foul count Australia vs Japan: 22-11 foul count Australia vs Brazil 25-9 if Australia had cleaned up their act a bit between games, and if Brazil were just as bad, does the above suggest some form of predetermined refereeing? don't get me wrong, i'm not suggesting Australia should have won or anything like that, but that does seem more than a bit unfair. and Ozz Man, i'm anby gareth - Other Sports

Group F: Brazil, Australia Group G: France, Switzerland Group H: Spain, Ukraine leading to.... i think we're copping a rough deal from the refs. there's been a bit of gamesmanship i believe, trying to influence the refs into thinking we're dirtier than we are. i'm certainly not saying we're perfect, far from it, but a 25-9 i think it was free kick count against brazil is probably over the top. certainly grella's hack on ronaldo was highly ordinary but weby gareth - Other Sports
