Nothing to do with the engine I believe... It's in the gearbox. Have you ever tried selecting reverse while going forward? It won't work... Just apply that principle the other way around. I'm not particularly techincally minded, but it's the same as me putting my motorbike in gear when I park it... it won't move, simple as that.by gav - Off-Topic

I think turning off yellow flags will be a pretty wise choice too... we only had around 6 racers and we didn't get going until about lap 5... just crashes on turn 1.... Did I show you guys my car? No, well here it is... minus photoshop skills... :Pby gav - Off-Topic
" So what is the max fsb 2100 ram can support?" If I remember correctly, 2100 is 133Mhz, 2700 is 166Mhz, 3200 is 200Mhz, and then you're into speeds that aren't officially supported by their chipsets, and usually cost silly amounts of money... purely for overclockers.by gav - Off-Topic
Not wanting to seem a bit of a traditionalist or whatever, but shouldn't a baby be named for personal reasons, not for what some guy 18,000 miles away thinks? It just seems a bit immoral to me.by gav - Off-Topic
Or they really are that high, but MSI don't want the bad publicity... I've had some awful problems with MSI motherboards recently (we've got some here at work). The temperatures on these things really are sky-high... I used a thermal probe to confirm it. Not saying it's the same with yours, but it wouldn't be the first time a motherboard manufacturer had released a BIOby gav - Off-Topic
Tux is right, lower the multiplier and raise the FSB/RAM for the best overclock. The rule I look at, is that for Athlons, an idle temperature of 55C is a max I look for - probably 65C under load. But even with the default heatsink/fan you shouldn't be looking at those sort of temperatures. My old Athlon 1800+ overclocked to 2700+ speeds no problem, and was running at about 40C under fullby gav - Off-Topic

Yeah, a lot of the better (and usually laser) printers have a CAT5 (network) socket of their own, and it has it's own IP address, so instead of connecting through one computer, the printer actually serves itself. I'd go with what Glyn recommended though, cheap (£15 probably) switching box, dunno if it'll do USB (if that's what you use), but I've seen lots of parallel oneby gav - Off-Topic
I'm not really sure about a wireless network, but I think they still use IP addresses and the like, so that shouldn't make any difference. If it was bluetooth or something, I could understand it.by gav - Off-Topic
It's stating that you should use the default driver that WinXP ships with. Obvious really, as all ATAPI devices are the same, in that sense.by gav - Off-Topic
Yup, definately not possible without the 1st PC turned on, as it needs IP addresses and things... a bit hard without powerby gav - Off-Topic

Jon, you can access the data from another XP machine, as long as the hard drive is moved to a totally different PC. Unless the data is encrypted (unlikely), then you should be access it. And of course, without NTFS, WinXP itself can't encrypt it, so if you could get at the hard drive files, then you'd be able to access then as usual. I can't really help, but rest assured mate, wby gav - Off-Topic
The latest ATI drivers have minor problems with both Nascar 2003 (look left while in cockpit, most have a strange right-angle thing), and in GPL (when there is high load on the card (IE back of a full grid) some cars, and your cockpit disappear. The GPL problem doesn't look like it's going ot be fixed anytime soon, so bear that in mind if anyone wants an ATI card.by gav - Off-Topic
Maybe the way to make money on the likes of GPL2 would be to have a yearly subscription of, say, £5 for online racing... I just think the world is going that way... simulations would be better suited to that.by gav - Off-Topic
that's PCMark 2004 Jon Get 2002... they're at least comparable then... I think the Promise one was around £70-£80by gav - Off-Topic
Well I'm currently copying GPL to my system drive (the one with the RAID 0 config), and the CPU usage is 5%. No onboard processor, as like I said, this one's built into the chipset. If I remember right, my old EIO one had about 12% usage (with a slower processor) copying data, the Adaptec I can't remember, and the Promise one I never noticed any usage at all. Basically, you'by gav - Off-Topic
The original GPLs problem was poor publicity. It was really advertised much, and the 1st I'd ever seen of it was in around late 1999... It's other problem was awful hardware support... Rendition cards (ultra-rare), 3DFX (which was/is extremely popular, but insanely expensive), and then there was software support (oh dear). I couldn't get the demo to work in any of those modes...by gav - Off-Topic
@ -qwerty- I've got a SATA Raid controller built into the i875 chipset on my motherboard. Previously I've had a cheap EIO Raid controller (IDE), an Adaptec 1200A (IDE), and a Promise TX2000 (IDE). The Promise one was the best by miles, with the Adaptec in 2nd place - but the EIO one would do for most people - not a lot in it performance wise. LOL! And does that or does that not take into account resolution differences?by gav - Off-Topic
So Vader, your graphics card has more memory than your hard drive has space? I built my first PC with a mate (neither of us had a clue about installing the hardware), but another mate bought the stuff for me. My second PC I built completely myself, no problem at all. Then I started working at the school that I'm an IT tech at, and built all of ours for a couple of years (all still goingby gav - Off-Topic
Yeah but Jon, some people just aren't up to building their own PC, or simply don't want to. I know it's pretty easy once you get going, but without any pointers it will lead to people putting sweaters (jumpers) on hard drives and things like that... :Pby gav - Off-Topic
I wouldn't be quite as certain about thatby gav - Off-Topic
Yup, I know, that's why I said "Crossed fingers, but I'm not holding my breath." No harm in hoping though, is there Lets face it, if they want to produce a racing sim that sells well, then their options are limited. I just hope that they don't move away from the racing sim theme...by gav - Off-Topic
I'm really starting to look forward to this one... I'm starting to pull out some decent, consistant times, and I've already got my race strategy sorted. Bring on the raceby gav - Off-Topic
I'm really looking forward to seeing what Papy come up with next. Hopefully it will be along the F1 lines, hopefully wearing a GPL2 T-shirt at that... Something like early 80's would be really interesting... Crossed fingers, but I'm not holding my breath.by gav - Off-Topic
If you have to buy a pre-built system, and still want performace or a bit of overclocking, go for something like an Evesham. Rock solid. Personally, I got 1 a couple of years ago, purely because I wanted it on credit, but I've built my own since then: Gigabyte 8KNXP i875 Motherboard Intel P4 2.4C 1GB Corsair 400Mhz RAM (Dual Channeled of course) ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 2 Western Digital 10,000by gav - Off-Topic
