Does anyone here prefer this to GP4 (I imagine not many, this being a Grand Prix forum). Does anyone play it? I prefer it to GP4 mainly because it runs well on my system with all the graphics turned up. One thing that's been bugging me is how do I make a good start? I've tried holding down launch control till the lights go off but I'm slower off the line than everyone else.

It's hard to pick, on one side GP4 has accurate tracks, nice AI, and a good race atmosphere. F1C has a better feel of freedom, better default graphics and 4 seasons to choose from.

GP4 feels like it drives on rails, is still quite unstable with modding, CPU-usage heavy, quite limited in many technical aspects (too many to list), and a few other things.
F1C feels like it's being driven on ice, has a weird GFX system that stretches cars, horrendous damage model, limited GFX capabilities and you can't save your race at different times of your race weekend.

In common, both need mods to survive.

To start, hold down launch control and once the lights are off, let go off the throttle and press it all the way again quickly.

I've very recently returned to F1 Challenge from GP4, and I do prefer the physics of F1 Challenge. Much more of a ...challenge ;)

Plus the AI in GP4 was REALLY beginning to bug me. Overtaking a car on GP4 around the outside into a corner, NOT GOOD! The AI cars, as soon as they get near the corner, you're fully alongside on the outside, and they suddenly swing to the outside straight into the side you. at last in F1 challenge they try and dodge you

Hmmmm.. Ice-skating! ;)

Also I start F1c more often than GP4.. Mainly because of how f***ing complicated it is to start GP4 without somekind errors and bugs. Specially since having Vista.. :S :D

Kimi, so, Massa Fernando Sebastian is faster than you. Can you confirm you understood that message?

i get much better performance with GP4 than F1 Challenge. I don't have the best computer but i can run GP4 with everything max. F1 Challenge, i cant.

GP4 has much better graphics than F1C.

i agree though that the ai in GP4 drives crazy. they drive so erratic and zig-zag and cut me off and run me off the road. they drive like im not even there.

i dont understand why people say GP4 feels like driving on rails. i use traction control in GP4 and if its so easy to spin around just driving over a rumble strip.

That's weird, but still 2/10 people have GP4 run better for them than F1c. Unless they're running CTDP 2005 in CTDP Hockenheim with full gfx on

F1 Challenge is a great out-of-the-box game IMHO, but a fully modded GP4 beats anything F1C can come up with.

My only real gripe with the as-sold version of F1 Challenge is the "aggregated driver performances" that you get across all 4 seasons, meaning that Heinz-Harald Frentzen is uber-competitive in his Arrows in 2002.

Oh, so you mean the performance for example a driver who was in Minardi for 99,00,01 then in 02 went to Ferrari would be really bad because of the 3 seasons he or she (;)) was at Minardi?

yeah, stank big time. But if the cars felt better, less slippery it would have been much better. Not to mention the weirdness of the squished cars

@ chet - Yes, exactly that. It's easily editable, of course, but still that's a poor oversight by the game makers. If it's easy for us to change performances per season, it would have been easier for them to have done so.

Oh! That is abit silly, they could have just made performance specific files for each season easy enough!

try turning off Sound Hardware Acceleration. In the old days (like 3 years ago :p ) it gave GP4 a huge performance boost. Don't know if the difference with newer hardware is still so big.
