UK retail running out of GTA IV

Major online stores struggling to meet pre-order demand

Play.com has sold out of its allocation GTA IV pre-orders - whilst GAME and Gamestation’s online offerings have already put up warning of stock running low.

Play.com’s head of games Gian Luzio told MCV that the title was “far and away the biggest selling title” he’d ever seen on PS3 – but predicted the site would have more stock back in for the game’s release date of Tuesday, April 29th.

He added that it was “already proving a real hardware driver” – especially for Sony’s next-gen console.

Luzio told MCV: "This is the biggest ever title for PS3 by a long way - and probably 360 as well. I've been really blown away by how quickly it's sold on PS3.

"Sales have gone crazy and have proven to be a real hardware driver already. We've sold out now, but will be getting in more stock as soon as it becomes available.

"We expect to have some stock back in for the day of release on April 29th."

GAME’s website at www.GAME.co.uk says: ‘We cannot guarantee delivery on the day of release for orders placed on or after the 7th of April’.

Gamestation’s site reports: ‘Due to unprecedented demand for the standard editions of Grand Theft Auto IV, we are no longer taking pre-orders for this version.’

that just on PS3? coz my local GAME had a sign up on saturday stating it was last day to pre-order GTA4 on any platform due to low stock

All platforms, theres plenty of the special edition around but none of the standard. They are probably just surprised that theres a game actually selling well on the PS3 other than GT5 Prologue

Il'd be suprised if it sells out. The actual game went gold a while back i think so they have plenty of time to press all the dvd's

Its Human nature though to want what you can't have, the Nintendo Wii has proved that short supply creates demand

Same problem in here.. Already searched for possible differences beetween these. Slightly more clear & bright colors of Xbox (wich is positive if watching how ps3 games normally are), against minimal smoother graphics on PS3.

So I guess biggest difference is that PS3 disc-cover takes less space.. :P

Yeah checked Shopto yesterday who are out. I'm getting the 360 version as things like replaceable music are still higher on my list than any benefits the PS3 offers, also prefer the 360 controller but thats a personal thing

the 360 version also has the exclusive downloadable content.

I rang game on Oxford street, they've stopped taking pre-orders for both 360 and PS3 versions. They also said they're not going a midnight launch as they did for San Andreas.

Irritating as I haven't preordered a copy

I pre-orderd mine about 3 months ago! :D

Discs are a lot easier to produce than hardware.

the hardware comes from several different suppliers normally.

if they are really running low i dont mind sending them my spindle of 100 dvd-r's for one copy of gta5

i dont have plan to buy gt5pro,after i get a ps3 sometime this year,ill just stick to the GT4&GTA IV can't wait the new HOT COFFEE!
