Adventure games with long, interesting and enjoyable storylines. Graphics not important, but gameplay is user-friendly? Two games SCREAM out from that description. :)

NEVERWINTER NIGHTS and FINAL FANTASY 8.

Final Fantasy VIII, I recommend! I've read all about it and FF VII, which seems to have an amazing storyline and is touching. I prefer VIII and I am far from done (lost my save!) but I think I will like the ending :D

Both Final Fantasy 7 and 8 can be bought for US$14.99 each + tax from most stores in the US. So unless those are 40 Aussie dollars, forget it

But DON'T read up on Final Fantasy!! Trust me, it'll spoil it for you.

FF7 for the PC is a bit dodgy, you need a patch and running at low colour settings and resolution. Worth it, but IMHO you should start with FF8. The stories don't follow one another so it's OK to start with a different one, and FF8 is a more user-friendly game.

Neverwinter Nights though, the official site is here:- [nwn.bioware.com]

I'd recommend Final Fantasy 8 100%. So long as you get into the game and take time to explore the world a bit outside the main quest, you will love it. :)

There is the game and two expansion packs
Neverwinter Nights, Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark.
you should be able to get all three for £20, no idea how much that is in AUD.

Neverwinter Nights (original game, on its own) you can buy for £10, but as TC says, may as well buy the expansion packs as well for £20 total. The first XP (Shadows of Undrentide) is a bit poor IMHO but you need to have it installed for the second XP (Hordes of the Underdark), which is brilliant, and makes it worth it.
