For anyone interested there is a public beta available at [www.netkar-pro.com] of the new 1.1 version :)

Downloaded it (Im a big fan of NKP even if Im only with the minority ;)) and have to say other than a few beta bugs obviously the cars/tyre model feel even better than before and the interference is going in the right direction!

The first beta release has had 2 updates already which is postitive.

The next beta release will include the Fiat 500 Abarth and a new track with 15 diffrent layout's too! :)

Also for this month only you can purchase NKP for only 19.90EUR, which I think is a bargain.

Current NKP user's will not need to pay for the new V1.1 release, just copy over your driver/licence folder and controller config.

The Osella & Hill Climb is planned for V1.2 AFAIK.

Does it actually work yet? Does it have AI? Does it have net code which works? Does it have people playing it that would actually warrant paying for it?

It works fine on my machine (but then again it always has) and the few people that have had problems with the game solved it by downloading the latest DirectX package and 3.5net framework.

Everything in game appears to work fine. It doesn't have AI but there is a ghostcar config so maybe we will see that soon?

Netcode appears to be better, especially the crash detection. I have been wheel to wheel online in this version, where as in previous versions your suspension would just break for no reason so thats a big positive. Haven't had any major online bugs or lag, although a fair share of bad servers have played their part before. A well setup server config seems to be the trick, V1.1 seems to be less temperamental eg you dont have to get the bandwith settings etc exactly perfect for it not to have a fit.

Online appears to be picking up, there have been some near full servers on there.

Tbh best thing to do is download the Beta and give it a go Dave, 99% of people are racing the FF1600 atm anyway :)

I mean does it have a use now? I'm not into hot lapping.

Ghost car and AI are completely different though. I don't think we'll see AI. It is 3.5 years since this game was released now and it doesn't seem to have added any significant features.

Have been (past tense) some (not lots) near full (not full) doesn't really cut it for me. I'll pass.

I have been using it online yes but as your iRacing 12 people online in a race probably wont cut it for you :)

True. I don't think there will be AI either tbh, Kunos has always said it's an online sim though.

Lmao ;) Fair play there, time will tell I suppose if people will stay and have regular full servers.

How do you make the force feedback so it doesn't try to destroy your wheel? What settings do you recommend?

Admittedly I have only a momo racing and not a g25 or anything of such quality though.

Also, when setting up the controls does it actually mean to steer to exactly 90 degrees? Or does it want you to steer to full lock?

What FFB settings are you running in NKP & in the Control Panel Controller settings mate?

It mean's steer to 90 degrees, don't worry about getting it perfect though there is some give and take. It's just how NKP determines how much lock you are running on the wheel :)

My settings for my wheel are:

Global Settings:

Force Feedback settings:

Overall effects strength: 99%
Spring effect strength: 0%
Damper effect strength: 2%

Enable centring spring in ff games: true
centring spring strength: 0%

I don't really know what most of this means.

For netkar:

Default ff settings are:

FF strength: 200
Damper strength: 0
friction strength: 0

Don't really know what these mean either :S but i changed the overall strength down to 70 and that helped a bit - however it was still rather spiky and harsh over curbs and bumps and whatever and also with damage. Also having it at 70 gave not much normal ff - it was very faint, which ruined it really.

Er yer so perhaps you could explain the magical world of ff to me.

Just tried it. Really not impressed. It runs even worse than it used to, whilst I can run rFactor and iRacing on full details. The sound is *terrible* and the menus are just bodged together to stop people complaining about the lack of menus previously.

This game just isn't worth driving for free. Paying for it is insulting, especially since it took 3.5 years to get from 1.0 to 1.1 and it is still broken.

It drove very well the first one I tried but it was so limited... it was like a cheap iRacing thing, not worth it for me

Mind you, still better value than iracing, and certain aspects such as the damage and tyre wear have more depth. Looks nicer too. Considering the budget of it compared to iracing that is impressive. In terms of what you get it's not great but it's still better value than iracing. Also those new 500s look reasonable.
Drives a lot better if you change the setup so it's not a horribly understeery one.

Depends what you want to do with it. Quite frankly, it looks like crap now. The graphics engine and it's various shades of grey that it uses to do highlighting and shading dated very badly. The textures are overdone to hell to make up for the poor lighting. It still has nobody to race online, and when you do get online the net code is still crap. So in terms of value, nK Pro is the worst value of any game since it has no functional use. Sure it is cheap - but it doesn't work.

They aren't even in the same ball park in terms of quality or accuracy.

If I'd paid money for nK Pro I'd be feeling mighty screwed right now. Get shipped a completely broken product, watch the dev bugger off with all the money. Turn up 3 years later and put out a patch which has addressed absolutely nothing at all.

Hold on... I was just looking at iRacing... You mean people, including members here, actually, really, honestly, truthfully, pay $13 a month for a video game??

Seriously?

People also pay $13 for WOW. Now compared to the crap that WOW is, paying $13 for iRacing is dirt cheap.
