you don't have 30$ to buy yourself gamepad which is also analog?

When you can buy a car that features an optical mouse rather than a wheel to control, then you can call me stupid...

In the meantime... ROFL!

two new engines, actually, gMotor2 and gPhysics2 (or something) - one handles gfx, one physics as you'd guess :p but yeah they're totally new and really the only similarity between rF and the EA published F1 games is they were both built by ISI ;)

F1Cs problem is there is no communication between the tyre model and the FFB system. There is no feeling at all with whats going on with the tyres. rFactor demo already shows they have improved this

I don't see all the fuss about this rFactor!

Played the demo cars look crap outside & ohh god what is the in car cockpit like!!

graphics of the game are run of the mill stuff nothing exciting NOT like GTR! although the game physics\feel are not bad!

still think GTR is a better overall sim ;)

1) rFacotr is not about the standard game, its about the mods
2) The graphics in rFactor demo are unfinished, they will easily beat GTR since its using a new engine compared to GTRs old
3) rFacotr has fantastic net code and AI that work. GTR has neither.
4) rFactor has day/night transissions, GTR just reloads and its stupid
5) GTR uses an old version of the physics engine. rFactor uses the new, so its better there too

The fuss about rFactor is its moddable.

I called you stupid because you said

"1) WTF? Mouse? This is a sim, not some arcade game. "
Your saying that just because a game supports the mouse then it must be arcade. So your saying LFS is arcade. Yet using an analog device to steer makes the game more realistic than using digital keys. You dont steer a car with keys but that doesnt make GPL any less realistic.

That logic just doesnt work. You complain it doesnt support a mouse for driving. Theres a reason for this: A mouse is crap for driving. None of the classic sims have supported a mouse

yet a keyboard is better? If a mouse is crap for driving why do so many people use the mouse in LFS?

because they dont have wheels, I fail to see the point. The fact is a car is driven with a wheel and pedals, whether you use a mouse or a keyboard makes little difference they are both very poor substitutes.

There are only a handful of racing games that can use a mouse anyway - it's hardly just rFactor (other than LFS, I can't think of *any* that I've played).

Whether the developers of LFS want to incorporate such a feature is up to them, but the simple fact is the number of people using a mouse to control the car will probably not even reach double figures.

Describing it as "crap" because it wouldn't let you use a mouse is absurd - it's an added bonus in LFS, but it's hardly something you can count against rFactor.

I wouldn't use my wheel in HL2 because my mouse was broke, would I?

no because the wheel is only x axis. The mouse can simulate the motions of a wheel fine.

Wheel + 3 pedals can be W, X, Y and Z axis ;)

I've kept out of this (franky stupid) discussion until now, but the post Gav made above states the facts and reasons very well.

The simple matter of the fact is - the mouse is a pointing device. A steering wheel is a steering device. You don't (realistically anyway) steer your mouse cursor, and you shouldn't point your car.

surely if you have pedals you have a wheel too (unless it's broked)... but anyway, you won't get the experience out of rF using anything but a wheel with good FFB - same goes for LFS, NR2003 and so on...

I cant stand driving with the wheel in LFS. Just doesnt feel right. Im alot faster with the mouse.

Your activly choosing to drive a SIM with a mouse when you have a wheel, and you complain they dont support it
