Grand Prix 2 - The hunt for championship starting from the slowest team - 1. Season (1994)

Posted by ZakRyker
I was 15 years old when Grand Prix 2 released. I had played F1GP before that so I was already hooked when GP2 got out. But little did I know what would come. I played the game for 5 years in a row every day. It was my favorite game of all times, Doom 1 and 2 only come second.

I dreamed of driving the whole championship season and winning from being the underdog. I started to drive championship season many times in GP2, GP3 and GP4 but never really got anywhere with them since I was not patient and whenever I made driving error that would lead to DNF, I just quit and lost interest. Then I became adult and other things took over in life.

But the dream never died. In the beginning of 2024 I had a perfect time in my life to start tinkering with GP2 and all the mods, editors and tools that have been made for it over the years. Thank you so much for likes of grandprix2.de and grandprixgames.org for serving us still today!

So I started my hunt for the championship:

Driver name: Zak Ryker
Career manager software: F1Career by Arturo Baz
I start from the slowest team with car dependent power and modify the player car's grip (Human Grip) to match the team that I am currently driving for as accurately as possible.
Hardcore mode: 100 % race distance, no reloading of saves in any session, difficulty level Ace, record all qualifying sessions and races to proof.

Season 1: 1994
Team: Pacific - Ilmor
Team mate: Paul Belmondo

My goals for the 1. season:
[*] Be faster than team mate
    [*] Qualify for the race
    [*] Finish the race
[*] Get a contract from a better team by the end of the season

I put all my race results into F1Career and I aim to get to the better team and eventually winning the championship. I have no idea will I succeed but at least I get to enjoy the process of trying.

Hey man in case you didn't know your Sim is running 20/30sec a lap faster than real time. Just time a lap with your stopwatch to see. Its a common bug with the standard release of dosbox. Dosbox SVN-Daum and dosbox-ECE are known to fix the issue, they'll get your Sim running in real time. If you have any questions just let me know
I know that it runs faster than real time. I tried every single fork of DOSBox when trying to decide what DOSBox to use and every other version just felt like a slide show compared to the original DOSBox. Then I started to read on it from forums and find out why. I actually tested it against the stop watch because I saw Ted Meat do that. But then I wanted to have as smooth frame rate as possible because I want to feel the speed of the car. And they also say that the game is a bit more challenging when it runs faster as well. And I love it that situations just come at you and you have to make split second decisions. So yes, it was a conscious decision.

Round 12/16, Monza, Italy.

My favorite of all F1 tracks in the original game. This time I just wanted to have fun, so I setup the car to go as fast as possible and turn as aggressively as possible, right on the limit.
