Hi guys.

I write this topic to ask you for help, not particualrly with a game or hardware. It's for highschool. Don't worry, I don't need complicated mathematical formulas, but something very different.

Here's the problem: I've taken up a subject whose name (barely translated) is "Social and Economics Studies", and in which the aim is to carry out a research. A friend of mine and I have chosen the topic of taxes on modern cars in my country, and it would be really helpful to compare them with the ones in other countries. So that's why I would really appreciate if you can answer these questions:

If you own a car...
What car is it?
How much do you pay annually for the license plate?
Are modern cars (2008-onwards) affordable in your country?
How much does fuel cost in your country?

Answer them only if you feel like doing it. Please add your real name and country so that I write them on the papers. If you don't want to post them here, PM me.

Thank you very much in advance!!!
Carlos.

Got a Ford Focus station wagon. It's a 1.8l Diesel built 2003.

I pay like 290€ taxes annually. Plus mandatory insurance.

Of course modern cars are affordable - at least for those who have the money.

It around 1.40€ per liter for diesel. Fuel is like 15 cents more.

Here are some interesting articles about the Luxury Car Tax in Australia that might be interesting for you. The first article also has a breakdown of all registration, stamp duty and insurance costs for such a car.

I don't own a car, however can answer the questions regarding my area.

Are modern cars (2008-onwards) affordable in your country? - Unless you work full time, not really.
How much does fuel cost in your country? - £1.37 for Petrol, £1.41 for diesel (accurate for my town).

I have a Peugeot 107 (o.98l engine)
I don't pay for the licence plate, but have annual mandatory insurance. That costs £480 a year.
I also have to have the car taxed, which is £20 a year.
Finally, there is an annual MOT, which is approximately £40. I also have it serviced with the MOT, which is another £60.

I think modern cars are definitely affordable in this country if you are able to work full time. Provided you are willing to drive something small and less attractive, it is possible.

Fuel here (Hertfordshire, UK) is £1.33 litre for petrol; and £1.41 litre for diesel.

And if there's anyone who would like to add information, feel free to do so.

Thanks again!

Also, I forgot to add Australian fuel prices - today were $1.39 for petrol (a ethanol-10 blend) - and $1.45 for diesel.

What car is it? Ford Fiesta 1.2 2002 plate
How much do you pay annually for the license plate? Not for the plate, but as it stands £70 for tax and £2500 per year on insurance
Are modern cars (2008-onwards) affordable in your country? For young adults, not as much, older much more so. Younger females have it much cheaper than younger males generally.
How much does fuel cost in your country? £1.35 for petrol and £1.40 for diesel

Just to mention that today I made the final talk with my mate. It was very good, we were the only ones to bring examples of cases in other countries directly from the people, and all thanks to you. So a big thank you for all of you who answered.

I have a Honda Accord Euro MY10
I pay about $800 a year for the registration which includes licence plate and CTP Insurance.
Depends on the car really. You can pick up dirt cheap Commodores and Falcons (I'm in New South Wales, Australia) with no trouble at all. European brands will cost a lot more though. You'd need a pretty stable full time income to consider a post 2008 car that's any good I think.
Fuel is around the $1.48 p/litre mark . Higher for premium and diesel.

Oh, looks like I'm a bit late! Nevermind then ;)

What car is it? VW Golf Mk4 1.4

How much do you pay annually for the license plate? It's £90 per year for tax and also mandatory insurance costs me about £500.

Are modern cars (2008-onwards) affordable in your country? No, even when you do work full time I would say not. Also, a lot of people buy them on what's known as a "lease" where they pay something like £350 per month for three years - this covers insurance too sometimes and then at the end of those three years they pay the difference and keep the car or swap the car for a new one.

How much does fuel cost in your country? Currently petrol for me is between £1.30 and £1.40 per litre.
