Now there's a man who does all he can to keep having the media bring his name up. I have to agree with the media, he seems to only do that so he can keep being compared to Pelé and be regarded as 2nd best of all time while far better players like Garrincha, or even the greatest Argentine ever di Stéfano, can only hope for 3rd best.

Maradona was better than Di Stefano...

And he had the balls to be Argentina´s Coach, Pelé didn´t want to be Brazil´s :P

He suffered a lot with all the cocaine things (anyway, in 94 he was banned from Usa World Cup for consuming Efedrine, a drug that is present in many medicaments...). I personally think its a miracle he´s still alive and healthy :)

However, that pic made me laugh a lot !

The CIA had to do something about it. They knew how to get rid of Argentina and Colombia from the 94 world cup.
They knew they were favorites and Brazil was kissing ass to the USA so they got to WIN.
They were local and they knew they had to get rid of some teams to pass to the 2nd round.
Maradona he was a Junky but not in the 94 world cup.
In Colombia team the Goal Keeper was killed because of this some months later after that world cup.

Hahaha ;)
I think that Maradona is the best of all time, better than Pele.
He would carry his team all by himself, whereas Pele for Brazil was always surrounded by fantastic players, which made things a lot easier for him.

Yeah, and it was definitely nothing to do with the random drug testing that has been a part of many major sporting events for decades...

@ Frantic: Pelé never felt like coaching, it's different than needing money and taking the job for that ;-)

@JCaranti: Maradona did drugs and was caught after the Greece game. The Colombian killed was Ivan Escobar, I think, the defender who caused the own goal in the 3x1 loss.

Edit: He was caught after the Nigeria game

You know how easy is to trick a person to make belief he consumed drugs?
Example: Giving something to drink or eat and your "caught"!!.
Maradona was not junky in World USA 94.
But above that he used effedrine for his minor allergy symptoms
Link: [www.nytimes.com]
Then we know the story. Thats the CIA Conspiracy against the player.

That and because they had the Colombian Mafia behind their asses.

So did the CIA also fabricate the ongoing, well documented and blatantly obvious cocaine habit that started 12 years before the '94 world cup and continued for some time afterward (cough cough?

Don't get me wrong - Maradona in his prime was an epic footballer, and i doubt anyone would deny that. He was, however, a recurring drug user.

yep, maradona confirmed that he started to use drugs during the Barcelona's "life"

anyway,he used a drink called Ripped Fuel(made in USA) before is last match at USA '94,in substitution to another drink called Ripped Fast(made in Argentina). The argentinian drink was regularly used by maradona without problems with FIFA.His coach gave him the american's one as argentinian's one was finished, but i didn't think there was efedrine into american's.

Ofcourse he used cocaine why do you think they suspended him for nearly 15 months when he was
playing for Napoly in 1992??
I only stated that during the 94 World cup he was not doing drugs.
Later he started again on drugs after what happened to him after the match with Greece.
Then he became fat. Also the many attempts to quit drugs.
He is clean now for nearly 2 years and many are happy to see him like that.

wait, wait.... Maradona used to use drugs (all type... before and after 1994), but not for playing better, in 94 it was efedrine but because he drinked something to cure a flu that contained that substance (a lot of medicaments have efedrine) ...

@ Gui: Maradona isn´t as Argentina´s coach because money... Pele said that but its not true. maradona wanted to be argentina´s coach since his retirement but his relationship with Blatter and Grondona wasnt the best until not too much time ago. Pelé and Maradona lied about each other for ages, they simply hate each other ;)
@ Jorge: Guimengo was refering to 1994, the doping test was made after the match Argentina vs. Nigeria... and the thing with Escobar, he fighted with a guy that blamed him for the own goal in USA 94, in the car parking of a night club in colombia.. That man shooted him...

I can’t state this point enough

Yeah, Andres Escobar (i believe that is his correct name) was shot by Colombian gangsters as they blamed him for the own goal.

Garrincha won the 1962 World Cup for us, alone. Pelé was a genius/boy wonder in 1958 at age 17, trashing any and all established teams/players. He also led Santos, a team I hate ;), to win basically everything against anyone. There was a lot of reliance on Pelé, Santos usually scored over 5 goals a game but they gave up quite a few too, they only won because of Pelé (and to a lesser extent, Coutinho). South American football was superior to European football by a fair gap. The mid-late 50s Real Madrid only is considered by FIFA the team of the century because of great publicity and being based there. More often than not they'd have lost to the better teams down south ;-).

This is not a rant, I just completely missed this ;).
