No. The new Muse stuff has nothing on Origin Of Symmetry and Absolution, etc.

These are pretty sweet too...

Editors are @#$%& live. Everything sounds the same and the only difference was the 2 guitars Tom Smith kept swapping between... which was exactly the same guitar, but 2 of them, presumably tuned between songs.

The most monotonous band I've had the misfortune of seeing play live.

Their albums aren't exactly brilliant, but they're way, way better than seeing them live.

As an R.E.M. fan I guess I'm naturally going to say Losing my Religion.

both of rebel's songs are from the twilight soundtracks, so i doubt he's heard the other muse stuff... (Neutron star collision is their worst track EVER - the only Muse song i find completely unpalatable)

For me, best indie song has to be Take me out by Franz Ferdinand. That song basically revolutionised my taste in music, bringing it smack up to date (at the time)...

things have gone downhill in terms of my taste since then, but that's another story...

Twilight is the reason that I'm not a fan of their new stuff.

Fuzz bass over the real bass line? Check.
Soaring minor key harmonies? Check.
Emo, preachy lyrics? Check.
Published on the writer's own label so that The Man can't steal his work? Check.

Much as i love Muse (i've seen them three times), i think The Beatles probably deserve a nod ;)

Up until The Resistance, Muse's stuff was good and is good. However, with the formation of twilight and that Neutron Star Collision, it blew it out of proportion as it sounded so cheesy but they had their reasons.

However, Supermassive Blackhole, Neutron Star Collision & I belong to you (The version without the french bit on the Twilight soundtrack) are just a few that have spawned out to non-muse fans. Listen to their own OoS or Absolution stuff eg New Born or Space Dementia/Fury ('twas a b-side for Jap) it's way above what was going on in that time.

All this commercialisation just dents the music these days.

resistance has it's moments. I belong to You isn't one of them... However, having seen exogenesis I live, i have to say it grew on me massively after seeing it live.

Showbiz is the best Muse album though (in my view). That and Origin. Absolution for me is like the resistance - what i like on it i really like, what i don't, i really don't.

Back onto Franz Ferdinand... where did they go wrong - albums 1 and 2 were spectacular, then album 3 was awful... Same with the Killers actually - good first album, appalling followups. and the kaiser chiefs... must be an Indie thing :s

Actually, one band i do like, which fits the indie description - the Rakes. their first album is very awesome (seen them live a couple of times as well - was good!)

Hasn't Muse been done to death already in the Muse thread?

true. I wouldn't even class muse as Indie anyway... they're not what i think of when i think of the indie sound

Agreed. they're more alternative. You want indie then go listen to The XX or something.

The problem with Muse is they're a very unique sound. I've been looking for similar artists and the only band that comes close is Radiohead, and even that doesn't match it.

The other thing I wanted to say is that I like every single Muse song, including Neutron Star Collision and I belong to you. NSC was not written for Twilight. It was written after Matt Bellamy broke up with his girlfriend last year and he wrote this song to describe how he felt at the beginning of the relationship. Twilight takes it completely out of perspective. I agree, the Twilight soundtrack one is terrible. But look at it without Twilight and it is a fantastic song.

I also agree with Monil about the OoS stuff and Absolution. Also, harj is right, Showbiz is easily Muse's best album, with Absolution coming in a close second.

I don't mind Neutron... or I Belong to You. the only songs i skip past on The Resistance are Undisclosed Desires and Unnatural Selection, they both don't quite do it for me. Undisclosed just sounds dull IMO, and US just has a generic sort of sound to it (even though the tempo changes in the middle and it slows right down), nothing in it grabs me and makes me want to listen again, the way songs like Hysteria, Bliss, Starlight, Cydonia, Guiding Light, Eurasia, or many of their other epic songs do.

I do like Hard-Fi's Suburban Knights, it's track 1 on a compilation i made for the car the other day.

RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichael

Most albums of great bands don't have any songs you skip. Live should be the same.

The Resistance was slightly different though, because Muse had never done that style before, so some Muse fans were bound to dislike some or all of the songs.

If I wasn't a massive Muse fan, I'd say that Undisclosed Desires and Hysteria were by different bands.
