Hi everyone!
I have (im guessing) a huge problem with my pc, it just simply doens't start. It keeps reeboting itself when appears the loading bar screen of the windows xp.
I've already tried to enter in safe mode, but it still reboots.
So, what should i do?

Thanks!

You should probably start by putting the XP disk in and rebooting if you change the bios you can boot straight to the disk. If you don't want to mess with the bios it might prompt you at startup to boot from CD that's what you want. Go to recovery mode, last good. It might look like its reinstalling windows but that's not what I'm suggesting here. You want to roll back. To a previous good boot or startup.

I've done what you suggested and i think i have a "dead" hd, because he not even with the cd starts. It shows a blue screen saying that probably the hd is dead.
Now my question is this the real diagnostic?

Btw, thanks for the reply auscain

Did you install any new hardware just before the problem like a video card? If so try un uninstalling it then reboot.
There are many things you can do try and save the hard drive. It usually comes down to how much time you want to invest into saving or restoring your personal files.

Google ( Blue screen on startup XP ) try and find the exact problem.

Nope. I just turn off the pc on the friday night and then on the next day, the pc simply doesn't start, and the weird part is that is say's tha he wasnt shutdown correctly, and appears the 4 options to enter in safe mode, normal mode etc etc. But no, i haven't installed new hardware, not even software (not to lately, no).
And the blue screen only appears when i start the pc with the windows xp cd inside.

Google ( XP loading bar screen )try and diagnosis your exact scenario

If you have windows set to do scheduled automatic updates then it’s possible there was a software change. If I had a simple solution I would have already shared that. You are lucky that you have access to another computer.
Also it’s okay to try to reboot a few more times from the CD

You have a HDD failure, I think the BIOS cannot find the boot sector on the HDD. There is a number of things that you can do.
Replace the drive, install an OS. Put the drive back in as a slave, then run disc recovery tools on the slave. Or take the drive to a place that specialises in data recovery.
It is also possible that a virus has written to your Master Boot Sector. MBR virii are usually found in pirated software and they are known to encrypt your MBR, making your HDD useless. If this has occurred, again, remove the drive, place it into a working machine as a slave, then run a full up to date virus scan on the drive. Google Boot Sector Repair and Boot Sector Virus Removal.
You can also use DOS based commands, from the command prompt you could try SYS C:\ D:\ (D being your HDD that you removed from the failed comp), then press enter, it should copy the system files from the good machine to the failed disk.
After inserting the disk in another machine you would soon know if it is any good as the first thing to do would be to open My Computer and view the disk, and do a read and write test.

So how does XP start loading? ;-)

It's could be one of a few things. If it restarts constantly at this same point, then it's down to a hard drive bad sector, a corrupt system file or a dodgy driver loaded before you last shutdown/restarted the PC. The last 2 could be caused by a virus, but it's very unlikely.

Before you go any further, you'll want to do a backup. If you can't get into safe mode then your best option is to do a backup through some bootable media or take the hard drive out, stick it in another PC and backup the important data that way - either way you've learned the hard way that you should be doing regular backups.

Once done, there's only 2 things I can think of to actually rectify the problem - neither are likely to fix it, but it's worth a go. If you boot from the XP CD and enter the Recovery Console, you can try 2 commands: chkdsk /f will scan for file system errors on the hard drive, and sometimes fix them sufficiently. If that doesn't work, go back to the Recovery Console and run sfc /scannow. That will scan your core system files and if it discovers and corrupt or foreign system file, it will replace it with the version either from the dll store or the XP CD.

When you've got off the data you need, you'll probably be wanting to do a reinstall.

This is where Vista and Win7 come in very handy - from the CD there is an program which will scan for problems preventing startup and try to fix them automatically.

I do think it's a HDD failure, i've had it one time too, also on XP. I got to the blue welcome screen before abruptly crashing and restarting my pc (NEVER actually got to the desktop), happened out of nowhere - however I did not manage to save any files as I had everything password blocked with an account, I couldn't retrieve data on another computer. Hopefully you have more luck with data recovery ;-)

Well, after almost a week without pc, i finally got the problem solved.
Indeed it was the HDD who "died", and now i have a new hdd and windows 7, so lets se if its something that good in terms of performance.
I wanna apologize, because i didn't have time or in some times i even didn't have a pc to reply, but anyway i wanna thanks to everybody who indeed try to help.
That only proofs that the GPG forum is the best community i ever been registed. :-)

Btw... Is there any "tool" to clean ou to aspirate (if that is the right word or not) the inside of the pc?
Thanks everyone

You mean the dust inside the PC itself? Whatever you do, don't use a vacuum cleaner (certainly not a standard house-hold one anyway as they generate a lot of static and it's very possible to kill components in your PC. You can get ones for electronics, normally powered by AA batteries, with about as much power as an asthmatic mouse.

Personally, I just take off the sides and top and leave it outside for 15 mins (obviously don't do this if it's damp or raining) and let the wind do things for you, then just blow the remaining dust off yourself.
