Okay, the year over here already is 15 hours old, so it's time for some retrospective.

Over the last 15 hours our government has completely failed to solve any problems - in fact they have been pretty much inactive. I'm outraged. We still have war in the world. I still don't have a higher net-income, the crisis is still going on. In terms of politics and economy 2010 has been a vast disappointment so far. Let's just cancel 2010 and move on to 2011 right away

2010 sounds too futuristic, no matter which way you say it (Twenty Ten, Two Thousand And Ten, or as Bill Bailey is referring to it, Ten Past Eight). If Back To The Future is to be believed (and why shouldn't it? It's awesome) then we should have hover boards within 5 years.

or as Westwood called it the other night, "two hundred and one, zero." but he's a tit.

what are these decades called though? people are calling 2000-2009 "The Noughties", which is fair enough because each year started with a nought if you miss the 20 off ('01,'02 etc.). what will we call 2010-2019? the Two Thousand-Teens?

what did they call the decades 1900-1909 and 1910-1919? maybe we can get an idea from that.

They didn't call them anything because there wasn't any commercial need back then to give them a name.

but how do we refer to those decades if we ever need to? all the others have names (the twenties, thirties, forties etc.) but not those two. for our ages, we refer to our teenage years, or our teens, so 2010-2019 could be called "The Teenies", but that sounds crap.

You say the TwoThousands (even though it does sound crap) and TwentyTens. Just like we had the Nineteenhundreds and NineteenTens. The names of the decades were derived from those names, the nineteen-bit was just dropped because it was logical that it was about that century. We can't, however, use the 40s and 50s again, so we'll have to cope with the TwentyFifities or something.

Alot of these decades also get their names a long time after theyve passed. This is due to the naming actually being of some form of what has actually happened during that decade, ie, the swinging sixties or the roaring twenties were never called that during the 60s or 20s. Alot of historians actually refer to the "90s" as the 1890s as well rather than the 1990s because it was the decade where oppression started to make way for a more free society, in the empire at least.

I heard it was to be called the oneders, as this decade will have single digits. Yesterday was palindrome day, that's if you reside in the USA where the month is written before the day. 01022010
