So, here is a 90's guy searching for good 80's music for making a good compilation (so my father too will be happy): I already now some songs, many I know how they sound but not the title, many other I've probably never heard.

So, give me your advice (Please).

Edit: Topic moved and re-titled.

Which kind of music are you searching? Rock, pop, etc. Also, if you know a part of the lyrics, you can throw them into Google and find the song.

watch the movie Hot Rod, then listen to the soundtrack, it has stuff like Europe and it's proper 80's style.

here's the tracklist for the soundtrack: Click

80's pop (or any genre played remotely frequently) is @#$%& awful. It all sounds the same.

Use the music the BBC used for the '91 end of season compilation - REM, These Days (not that I'm a fan or anything ;))... it's from 1986, but isn't an endless stream of keyboards and drum loops.

80s... REM - It's the End of the World/Stand/Pop Song 89. U2 - Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For/New Year's Day/Sunday Bloody Sunday/With or Without You. Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine/Paradise City/I Used to Love Her/Patience/Welcome to the Jungle. You may also look into Roxette, The Cure... figure it out :P.

Check out some of the movie scores by Giorgio Moroder(Electric Dreams, Neverending Story). Some of the music on there is actually really good, and has a really classic 80s sound as well.
In fact, there's even an example of this on the old BBC F1 race highlights programmes - from the mid-80s up till 1993 they used a piece from the Neverending Story soundtrack, it was usually played as they ran through the grid order, immediately before the start.

As well as this, there's plenty of 80s rock - Bon Jovi, Guns 'N' Roses, Def Leppard, Journey, Starship.
