Well, you're just usually among the first to notice these things...

Absolutely no offense to Morbid, but no he ain't. He's normally amongst the later arrivers to threads.

Everyone knows that million-to-one chances happen 9 times out of 10; indeed, it's a common requirement in fairy tales. If the human didn't have to overcome huge odds, what would be the point? Terry Pratchett - The Science Of Discworld

It has nothing to do with "arriving" in threads. It is about attention to detail and observation. Of which, Morbid is top notch.

So I guess this has been changed a long time ago, and I am like the man walking into a room of F1 fanatics going; "Look Michael Schumacher isn't driving for Ferrari any more!"

Are you the same person?

No straight answers here it seems... tsk, tsk, tsk!

On the question you offer, "are you the same person", I would answer you, turkey_machine: "That really depends".

On a molecular level, certainly not: an almost uncountable number of molecules have been destroyed, exchanged and replaced. On the atomic level, it is even worse. On a cellular level, I am still not the same, since billions of cells have died and billions of new cells have taken their place.

If we go into the spiritual level, assuming you accept such notions, the question becomes really bizarre, because we have barely been able to define a spiritual me across the globe and the ages. Perhaps the perceived me is only the particularized form of the collective consciousness, and the perceived you is a different particularized form of the same collective consciousness. That would make me and you the same, albeit different in matter at this present moment. Upon death, that would be subject to change of course. Some spiritual traditions even reject the me altogether.

Am I recognizable to the average person? Well, I got my hair changed at the hair dresser the other day, so for some I guess yes, and others no. That depends on their level of awareness and perceptive faculties upon glancing my material figure.

What really makes the answer worth considering, is compared to WHEN am I the same person? People I met in public school would have a very hard time recognizing me, but those that have met me in the last 2 years probably could.

So... what kind of a question is that? Do you really wish a deep philosophical and spiritual debate? Do you think my account has been hi-jacked, just because I am not on the beat and I lost my sig? Maybe you think I am Massa in disguise, and I am confused because I got a big knock on my head. Or is this perhaps some sort of trick question, where on one hand you inject a witty remark and on the other offer some level of dismay at my lack of presence on these boards?

Answers please. I don't have all day. I am already decomposing!
