Sugababes - The Rivals?

OK, so it's maybe old news already, but... Meh! I think it's a mildly amusing topic. And worse ones have been started!

After the last original member left Sugababes recently, Mutya suggested that the 3 original members reform and rival the existing group.
I wouldn't mind that happening actually. Which group would actually be Sugababes? The original group technically doesn't exist anymore, after all.

It would definitely take the piss out of the "manufactured" pop culture if it happened.

Have they a right to be called the "Sugababes" anymore?

It's like that quote from Only Fools And Horses by Trigger:-
"I've had this same broom for 25 years. In that time it's had 14 new heads and 8 new handles, but it's still the same broom!"

Not that I care about the Sugababes, but the name will probably be owned by the record label, or manager, or someone above them.

Good point Locke, the broom analogy. That one sprang to my mind as well.
And if the rights to the name are owned by their record label, as they probably are, they'd still be made to look silly if the line-up who released "Overload" got back together and started releasing stuff again. Even if it was under a different name.

Gives a whole new meaning to the term "bastard pop" if you ask me.

He saves it for those who deserve it. ;)

Hardly. You gonna slate me for liking ELO?

I was referring to the "him saving it for those who deserve it" bit... indicating you didn't think the Sugababes were deserving of a slating. ;)

I was referring to the person, not the subject. Slight difference, apologies if that didn't come across right. :)

The rumours aren't going away, it seems:

[entertainment.stv.tv]

:P

Good to know ITV can still be relied upon for cheesy entertainment gossip.

It's STV, which is basically Scottish ITV, which basically means it's Scottish people.

How on earth the original lineup got away with the name "Sugababes" without getting sued for false advertising is beyond me

Meah, it's just what we get. Where I am, F1 was shown on STV from 2006 up till the end of 2008.

STV was hilarious. When F1 changed to widescreen, STV didn't, so every race was squashed. They only changed when I emailed and argued with them. Yes, I take credit for STV fixing it!
