the stage set was fantastic, set on 3 independent blocks sort of george orwell police state sort of thing and they played on top of them for most of the night, they lowered and they came down and played on stage for some part, then got back on them and rose up again

The top part of the blocks showed videos and then live shots of them performing live for those at the back, the lighting was pretty spectacular, with lasers and then halfway through these massive inflatable orbs were introduced into the crowd

spectacular band and spectacular gig!

That sounds amazing!
Those photos link fine for me, and they rock! Muse are definitely raising the bar where live show spectacle is concerned IMO. :D

Just got back from seeing them at the Liverpool Echo Arena. Ive seen them once before and it was awesome so I had pretty high expectations heading into tonight, but what I experienced just blew my mind completely and Im sort of sat here in a daze, trying to make sense of it all. The three blocks were concealed, and they opened with a sort of modified version of the exogenesis symphony, then the blocks were revealed with matt, dom and chris on their own block, and blasted out The Resistance...awesome :o . Managed to push my way to the front and by the end of the gig I was about five rows of people away from the barriers. Im still trying to comprehend how good it was lol, its having trouble sinking in.

By far the best gig of my life, and by far the best live band around at the moment. No one even comes close.

Bit of a sweeping statement, and rather close-minded. One of the best shows possibly, but best live band... not in my opinion.

Muse live is quite a show. But without the automatically programmed "epic" sound which now appears in all there songs, it is kinda a given. I can name quite a few bands that are around today that are far far better :p

I feel they've overcomplicated their recent songs. You can't play everything the same way live as you have in a CD. When it gets down to the basics, though, they sound amazing. All great musicians that play their instrument very, very well, and their songs with great riffs and beat just get the crowd going.

The Beatles stopped touring so they could match the level of production the Beach Boys had achieved in their albums, as they couldn't replicate it live. I feel Muse should tone it down on amount of "layers" it has and go back to the 3-guy band with maybe that one 4th guy playing the keyboard when Matt can't.

LS, did Matt play Popcorn for a Jam or something. It's amazing how they play that live! :D

Bellamy just needs to step away from the piano and pick up the guitar and work his magic.

I will say though after re listening to HAARP, is that they really need to "liven" up the studio stuff. It has that wonderful sound of the apocalypse in the fill sections that they just don't do anymore on their album's.

The Flanker is gone. :(

They didnt play popcorn unfortunately :(

Dom and Chris however perform an awesome drum and bass jam whilst standing together on revolving turntable that doms drumkit is sat on

As for the things mentioned above about Muses layers on studio tracks, whats wrong with backing tracks? how much would it cost to have a 12 string orchestra on tour?

Just being able to watch Matt Bellamy playing a guitar is just awesome in itself

Wouldn't cost that much, especially for a band rolling in cash.

Logicistical nightmare compared to a backing track

ELO used to tour with a full orchestra back in the early 80s...

The set is the same one that was used in their Euro tour. They played the drum and bass too which made it immense! :D

Not really. Many bands have done it, and do still do it. The Rolling Stones tour with many backing members. The Shine A Light DVD was filmed with 3 backing singers, an extra backing guitarist, a bass player, 3-5 saxophonists, and a keyboarder. And that is cut down from bigger tours like The Bigger Bang tour.

It is really quite common for successful bands.

One issue with so many people is that then the band starts abusing the amount of instruments used. Example with the Stones. Jumpin' Jack Flash has that organ that comes in for some 20-30s in the end of the song, playing that one and only tune and it's just brilliant. In their live shows I got annoyed at how many times they'd stick in saxophones and keyboards along the guitar/bass/drum.

Regarding Muse jamming, I don't think it can truly be considered that as they repeat every little thing they do in every performance, it might as well have been practiced for months in the studio as it's a common thing in the majority of their shows.

Don't like HAARP much, do you Smorr? ;)
Can't really say a word though, I'm the same with Black Holes & Revelations.
