Sorry if a thread about this was already opened, but search doesn't seem to work.
So, I read on a magazine about Relase Candidate 1 version and they look enthusiastic.
I just downloaded it but now i have some doubt after installing it:
1) will it work with windows xp (or at least vista) drivers on my Acer notebook?
2) reading about performances I read that 7 is many times faster than XP: is it the same for videogames?
2bis) does GP4 work on 7?
3) i once installed XP on a Windows Vista pc and it gave me problems with dual boot: there will be any installing 7 on a XP pc?

1) For most devices you'll need to download the Vista drivers. For some devices they simply won't work, but they are in the minority. Obviously, if you're using Windows 7 x64 you'll need the 64-bit drivers.

2) Gaming performance generally isn't very different - a little faster here, a little slower there. General system performance is far faster, getting faster and faster the more RAM you have, due to SuperFetch (Vista is the same in this regard).

2b) No idea.

3) There are no problems with booting that can't be sorted with either MSConfig or 3rd-party utilities such as EasyBCD. If you break the boot record you can always repair it via the Windows bootable CD/DVD.

Vista drivers work on 7 (64 bit). Ati's driver is a bit buggy for older cards.

GP4 works fine on 7 - performance same as Vista (have never had XP running properly on this machine, so can't comment on what performance is like over XP. As for general performance, i can't notice any difference from Vista on this machine... and the new taskbar is a nightmare for switching windows. I'm hoping they put an option to have a full Vista style taskbar back.

(yes i know you can add labels again, but there are two problems. apps which close to tray (like WMP and SPotify) show up on the taskbar constantly, and the WMP toolbar has disappeared too. so annoying!

to summarise, i'm going back to vista once i've moved house and found my system's recovery disks

Sorry to hi-jack the thread but would you be able to run 7 on, say, a Macbook through Boot Camp or something??

Hackintosh ftw, What version are you on mattbt?
I had 10.5.6 working on my studio 1535 (minus ati video drivers, but I could force 1440x900 through the kernel by adding it to the boot plist). The only things that didnt work were sleep and sound was a tad annoying a few times. I soon wiped the OSx Partition however, its just odd running OSX on a non apple machine.

They won't, thats almost certain. Aparently the "Superbar" is the new way forward (im still not used to it either)

You can change it. Or atleast you were able to do in the beta. I still haven't gotten round to doing that yet

Yes you can change it (i.e restore the application labels, use smaller icons (which makes for a thinner task bar)), however you can't restore vista style behaviour which is what he was wanting i believe.
