These are the Samsung MLC drives (and sponsored by them no doubt!), which currently cost £500-600 for a 256gb model (which is what's used here), and they cost a lot more than that not very long ago.

£500 x 24 = £12000 just for drives. If you were to add in the oct-core CPU setup, Skulltrail motherboard, quad graphics, 2 RAID controllers (one of which is a grand on its own) and 2x1000W PSUs, you're looking at £16000-18000 I'd guess. And you'll need a means of storing all those SSD drives while having them all connected to a single PC of course.

Shame they didn't use Intel SLC drives - they're a good bit faster than the cheaper MLC types that most of us will end up getting.

How useless is that for normal people.

Wouldn't be as fast. SSD has dwarfed normal hard drive access speeds.
