Dreaded Revision

Guys, any new ideas on how to revise?

I've got the GCSE finals fast approaching and I've tried all the usual methods. A quiet place with the computer switched off and mobiles off aswell. But I'm just not able to concentrate as my mind just starts to wonder and then I forget what I learnt just 5 minutes ago. I have got a revision timetable ready and I am using it but there's no point in me having it if I can't concentrate :(

I'm sure all the guys doing their AS Level exams and GCSE Early entries will be having the same problem

Any new Ideas?

Tell me about it, I'm trying to revise solidly for my Physics degree finals which start on the 21st, and I can't remember most of what's been taught this semester.
It's like I might as well not have attended my lectures.
Oh Dear.. :(

Getting enough sleep is very important, your concentration will be much better after a good 8 or so hours, and save exercise/sport for later in the day after you have revised, if possible.

Good luck with your exams anyway Monil.

Stick the radio on, Radio 2 works for me when I need to revise for stuffs (not doing so this year as I've officially written off my [2nd attempt at the] 2nd year of uni). The key thing is starting it off - once you do that, you're set.

Slightly varying from Vader's suggestion, I'd advise do weed. Relaxes you no end. You can get overwhelmed otherwise...;)

To be honest everyone revises differently. I can never revise stuff by looking at it, I need to write it down, even if I'm just copying the exact sentences in the notes into a copy.

One that helped me when I was doing our variant of the GSCEs was I revised outside, because it was sunny. That helped me no end.

do mock tests from internet or something, it gets your mind working and if you dont know it you can look it up and then do the test again and use your new knowlege so it gets stuck in your head.

What are you revising for?
I have the same problem, I just need to hit the off button on my computer, but it's so hard, especially when there is all that football to watch on Sopcast :(

Thanks n00binio :)
What kind of experiment did you do?

some resonance phenomenons to have a mechanical comparison to an electron in a box shaped potential and in the coulomb potential to get an idea of how a H atom works. experiment itself was easy but the maths to describe it with that bunch of spherical harmonics wasn't very enjoyable

Lol! Sometimes I have to take my net adapter out and give it to a housemate!

2nd yr aerospace exams, abit of physics but thankfully none of that particle biz :p

Aerospace? I was thinking of doing Aeronautical Engineering before, see if it could get me into designing racing cars (apparently Gary Anderson did it). Is that your aim, or are you going for aeromobiles? ;)

Eventually I got lazy and elected to sit in front of a laptop for four years. Meh, at least the laptop was free.

Ouch, spherical harmonics.
My understanding of the quantum mechanics modules ended at that point!
Particles however isn't that bad to be honest.

Good luck with your aerospace exams chet! My mate is doing aerospace too and has just finished his dissertation. Some people wrote 30,000 words for theirs.

@ naboo, where are you studying motorsport engineering?

Im not too sure atm. It would be silly of me to restrict myself to purley motorsport given the current happenings... (ie alot of people will be laid-off due to budget cap, meaning they will prob spread out over different series meaning alot of talent on the meerkat).

After this degree I am aiming to do another, Aeronautical at Southampton and then maybe a masters in racecar aerodynamics. It's all unknown atm though, alot could change in a short period of time. Motorsport is my aim, but as it is for thousands of others. I have vowed that after completion of my degree, every week I will post letters to a number of race teams, and not stop till I get a job :p! but theres alot inbetween that and now, anything can happen.
