Let (x) = Dad's age
Let (y) = Kid's age

x + 5 = 4(y - 1)
x = 4y - 4 - 5
x = 4y - 9

x + 5 = 3(y + 6)
x = 3y + 13

4y - 9 = 3y + 13
y = 22
x = 79

the kid is 22?!? what is he, in remedial dumbf**k school? Dad popped one into some bird at a decent age too by the looks of it

+2 That's brilliant. Just what my dad would do to me if I asked the same question.

You really need some math lessons. Say the kids age is X. Age of dad is Y.

"In five years time I (meaning the dad, hence Y)" : Y + 5

"... will be four times as old as you were last year" : 4 (X - 1)

So : Y + 5 = 4 (X - 1)

: Y + 5 = 4X - 4

: Y = 4X - 9

So if the kid is 10 his dad is 31. To me the kid looks more like he is 7. Follow that through to the next portion, and it all falls apart anyway.

It is not a riddle, it is a comic.

It's only after we've lost everything, that we are free to do anything.

I reread my work when msater posted and realised why my algebra sucked, but then left it to see if anyone would epic fail me. Still, your last sentence makes it all redundant anyway ;)

LMAO! Great sketch. Shows up the dad "smartass" tendency brilliantly.

Algebra is painful, doing exercises in it used to give me headaches akin to the harshest stage of an extreme beer hangover. So glad I don't have to anymore.

[Off-topic] Welcome back Morbid, great to see you back dude! :)

My housemate has a girlfriend that he...does stuff to...all day everyday. We used to know exactly when her blobby week was because he'd be flooting around the kitchen having yoghurts. Then one time, he discovered he could go in the trademan's entrance. I miss that guy, I really do.

And to answer your question...No ;)

My algebra doesn't suck, and I got a 22 year old kid with his 79 year old dad as well

Kid: X
Dad: Y

Y+5=4(X-1)
Y+5=3(X+6)

Y+5=4X-4
Y+5=3X+18

4X-4=3X+18

4X=3X+22

X=22

Y+5=4(22-1)
Y=84-5

Y=79

I was under the impression that I was wrong cos i had the original 4 on the wrong side (where the dad's talking about "I will be four times as old" or whatever), but now I'm not sure. My head is blurry after last night and is hurting so I'm just gonna leave it as a dumbarse web comic ;)
