Hell hath no fury than a Morris Marina owner scorned...

I'm sure many of us watched Top Gear last night with the Morris Marina owners reaction to them setting fire to one last week, it was slightly extreme. Basically a gentleman on the forum sold the fully restored car to Top Gear after being told it was going to be used in a tribute

The forum it was mentioned on has become view only, but I bring you their best bits

CAUTION DOES CONTAIN SOME FOUL LANGUAGE

Top Gear are beyond surprising me to be honest - they've ruined so much decent BL stuff over the years that nothing comes as a surprise to me any more. I make the total tally so far 2 Princesses, 1 SD1, 1 Dolomite Sprint, 2 Marinas, 1 R8 416, 1 XJ40. If we add Clarkson's own personal tally there's a VP1500, R3 Rover 200 and another Marina to contend with. Please tell me if I've forgotten anything, I'd love my list of reasons to dislike him to grow. And it's beyond a joke - Top Twats should be PROMOTING and SUPPORTING our heritage - but no, Britain-bashing seems to be very much in vogue at Dunsfold.

The Marina wasn't a particularly outstanding car - IIRC it was intended as a stop-gap mid-range car developed using the BL parts bin. However, that does NOT, repeat, does NOT make it appropriate for a pube-headed schoolboy to destroy as many as he can lay his hands on. It mayn't be a Ferrari, a Porsche, or an Aston Martin, but that does not deny it it's place in the hearts and memories of many. People whose dad, or uncle, or best mate's gran had one. Clarkson needs to realise that. And stop reducing the survival rate.

This attack may appear focused on Clarkson - this is because whilst the other 2 have partaken in the destruction, they have themselves owned and do own classic cars of some sort. This means that they're at least making some effort to preserve - it doesn't make it acceptable, but I feel Clarkson's actions are worse because he makes no attempt to contribute anything of value to the classic car community by helping.

Clarkson and his cronies should be hung, drawn and quartered or is that to good for them . Not your fault Andy it's idiots like Clarkson that are slowly removing the British heritage. He doesn't deserve to be classed as British.

Final gear?, never knew that site existed, must admit it seems a bit strange to devote a website for the sole purpose of talking about a TV programme, christ!, and they have the cheek to call us `sad`! , still i`m sure they all worship the `God` Clarkson and take everything he says as `gospel`, 99% of those commenting have probably never even owned a BL car let alone a Marina, if he said that Winston Churchill was his dad they would probably all believe him and follow like sheep , sorry guys but we are not all MAD as you would have it...just a bit angry,as i`m sure most of you would be if something you cared about was treated in this way, purely for entertainment.
To be honest the thing that pisses me off more than anything, is the way that Clarkson & co always single out the Leyland stuff for ridicule above everything else, especially as BL stopped making cars over 20 years ago!

s it possible to tighten up on new members? like provide a registration of their Marina and confirming it with DVLA before being let on to post.

You have to remember one thing, the three clowns on there just go where the money is. One of them (the curly haired tw*t) claimed the Rover 620ti was as good or better than the B*W M3 at one point, until B*W stopped Rover paying him so much..... after that anything vaguely British was classified as garbage, unless you could pay him to say different. As for Hamster.... I think he does like classic cars but follows the other two's lead - a letter in PC summed it up by calling them 'sychophantic ar53-lickers' for rushing to do up Hamsters Opel and then watching more British heritage trashed.
I suspect the Marina is stored round the back of Dunsfold with the remains of the Herald boat, SD1, Princess et al... the only escapee so far was the Dolly Sprint which was 'acquired' for restoration.
Feel for you, mate, and if I had won the lottery I'd have bought the latest Clarkson rave car and trashed that, then emailed it to Youtube and TopGear with a F-Off message attached.

Top Gear's reaction on those mails was the only right thing to do ;)

Yeah, I thought it was hilarious how they responded to Marina owners complaints. "It rains pianos here..." :D

Indeed, Top Gear's response absolutely grand. Imagine if it did rain pianos? ;)

You saw that coming miles ahead, can remember they did that before with a old Alfa or something IIRC. The news was awesome too.

The top gear reply to that was one of the funniest thing in the series - right on!

Thats a bit rich coming from a member of a forum dedicated to some POS car from the 70s. I've done a bit of reading on the thread over at FG, and I can see why the guy might be upset that his pride and joy apparently got destroyed. But, by the same token, he sold it to the film crew whereby it ceases to become his property and thus he has no authority on what the new owners decide to do with it. They chose to burn it, and quite rightly too.

Some people are so sad. :)
