totally agree with chet here!

if it aint broke, don't fix it!

this forum is unique in that it isn't in any way generic. it is easy and fluent to read well, is a piece cake to use and doesn't have the crap of other boards with distracting sigs, colours, fancy bold text sizes, fonts etc.

simple and to the point.

its still going strong for those reasons - so few updates needed, if any that is!

i love the fact that reading this is like reading a word document - posts are clear. other forums are too small, pixelly, jazzy and have annoying colours.

this forum is just right and perfect!

it could offer so much more though, and most forum software can be customised to keep the clean look of the place. most of teh suggestions in here are what i would consider necessary for a large, moderatly paced forum such as this.

chet: rep system works by allowing members to give a certain amount of rep points a day, both negative and positive. if you read a good post, you acn give it +ve rep, and bad posts -ve rep. over time it will build up a picture of who teh good posters are, and who the trolls are. it forces people to post better thought out posts rather than some of the crap we have now. it effectivly allows for teh forum to self-moderate, which can only be a good thing imo.

I am completely against rep system because it will affect the harmony of the community and will
cause flame wars and even bigger haterd towards certain members who are even without this system
often called out and lynched. Those who post annoing posts should be reported and than mods will deal with them.
And post report is already availabe. (and used excessivly).
My recomendation is that you leave it as is, dont change anything. Maybe only thing that could be
usfull is the hit wiev but if it will led to abuse than drop it.

Actually, I agree with Chet here. It's like the new facebook, its going well as it is and we didn't need an upgrade, and the guys who are on facebook have seen how shoddy new interface is. It has your wall in your mini feed and such. I like the forum as it is. :)

Ooh, one option I'd really like. The ability to turn off signatures.

Oh god that new facebook is horrible, as with the new myspace. Im just thankful you can keep the old!
Gav for the 4-5 years (??) ive been here there are two sigs ive never notice change, yours and Mikas :p possibly vader too, except for the specials he has, like the christmas one ;)

About the rep system im not sure it would work. Ill use Gui and Bruno as examples.

Gui could post something really good and Neil ( for example ;) - not guis biggest fan ) may not see it the same way. How would decide whats good and whats not. Neil (sorry :p) posts things which are hardly useful but at the same time can be really funny whilst someone will possibly find it offensive others may enjoy it :p. Bruno's the same.

yeah but not everyone views Gui's posts the same way, so even if Neil marked him down, there will be someone else who marks him up. and Neil would already have Gui on ignore anyway ;)

Woah! When did that get added?! :D

Love how it still shows your sig too, so you can just quickly scan down threads you've posted recently in to get an idea of where you'd read up to.*

/me goes to look for other new settings.

* Which gives me another idea. A button next to threads with new posts in, so when you click it, it takes you to the first new post you've yet to read. Kind of an extension to the 'new' text we have.

Nah, that takes you to the last post, not to the first unread post.

The only thing I would like to see added to the forum is a post-rater, e.g. "Did you find this post useful?" which can be displayed for other users.

IMHO that would be a good way to see immediately which posts are worth reading, and which can be happily ignored.

Hexus have recently introduced a thanks feature, and while it gets used for people posting funny jokes as well as important stuff, as far as I'm concerned, if you appreciate something, then why not let the rest of the forum know? It's better than posting "I agree" and more appreciative.

It's all good and well that negativity should be highlighted (not saying I agree), but it would be nice to know if someone found a post or thread helpful.

Positive only rep points, if you will.

actually thats a good point to make Gav, i like the sound of that.

you can tell you work in a school LOL!

too much on punishing naughty children, not enough praise for those in recognition for being good.

i guess this would be a definite way to highlight examples of 'good behaviour' so to speak on the forum, as it shows new and old users how good posts are received and viewed on the whole and rewarded.

i can only hope it would encourage others to copy this and follow them as examples.

+1 for that!

tags are needed. A "Thanks" counter for the post would be good, as Gav said, and the ability to go to the first "unread" post would be a Godsend.

There is a slight bug though. A thread with multiple pages still has "new" next to it, even though you've read all the posts.

Not here. If I've visited all the pages the 'new' notification goes away.

Works for some, doesn't work for everyone.
