Do you have a notebook? If not, don't bother to read this ;) I have a notebook, and sometimes there's dirt on the touchpad, which causes the cursor moving indepently across the screen. About the double clicking, it sounds stupid, but I had the idea sometimes things were clicked without me touching the mouse, but after a while I realized it was me very softly hitting the touchpad when typing ;)

That's because some laser/optical mice struggle with some surfaces. Usually sticking a piece of A4 paper under the mouse cures that.

A small bit of hair stuck in the opening under the mouse isn't uncommon either, as is general grime if you use it on a cloth mat.

Is it a cheap Dell / Logitech mouse? If so, get something decent. And a good mousemat. :)

The cheap Logitech optical mice rock. They cost about £4 and just keep working forever. We've got loads at work - 1 per machine and box of spares for laptops that occasionally refuse recognise the touchpad (reboot solves that, but mice are better :P). Not the most comfortable things in world, but you can't complain for £4.

It does indeed, we have multiple (as we have multiple pc's), and indeed also for the laptops (as I hate touchpads). It does feel a bit fragile, but in all it's simplicity, it works fine. Without a mousemat btw, although my desk is quith smooth and flat.

My Logitech optical mouse is brilliant. Best mouse I've ever had. That said, it did replace a Dolphin mouse.

Dell mouse then. ;-)

I remember someone saying cheap Logitech mice had the same probs as the Dell mice, but it seems good Logitech mice are properly made. :)
