You guys all crack me up, with all the speculation over who the stig is. BEN COLLINS as it's been said several times IS the STIG, the bbc use 2 back up drivers for when he cannot take part in filming. but as far as i'm aware thats not often. I know this as one of my best mates works on the show, doing a lot of driving work.

As as has been posted so many times, no, Collins is a regular Stig, but he isnt THE Stig. Porsche, Ferrari, Aston, etc all provide there own test drivers for the cars. I know this because I know one of the Stigs!

I've had to edit this twice now as it sounded like i'm being argumentative, which I'm not trying to be, but I wasn't disputing that there was more than one stig, after reading my previous post i can see why you would think that but thats not how it was meant to come across, just wanted to point out that there aren't a million stigs, there are a few guys that do the majority of the work, and yes you're right the big manufacturers do prefer their own test drivers to drive their cars, I didn't dispute that?..... I would have thought by now that everyone knew how top gear worked but threads about the real identity keep cropping up is it damon hill..... I remember a while ago the sun even printed a column "revealing" Ben as the stig. not a big issue.

Sort of invalidates the power board really if you aren't using an independent driver surely :P

With everything in Top Gear scripted to the nth degree to make it seem real and comedic, its fair to assume that stig is just a character played by lots of different people rather than one indivual.
