I'm glad to see our county's administration is in good order....

Got a letter from HM R&C today, saying that they required additional information for my tax returns etc. Nothing out of the ordinary. They attached my form to fill in the blanks etc.

But..... Its not my form! Its for a Mr.V Ustenko! I have this blokes National Insurance number, his D.O.B, his address and his place of work! More worrying for me though, who has my details????

Does this sort of thing happen often? Or is is a monumental f***-up?

Doesnt happen often, given the number of forms in circulation. Certainly better than it used to be!

Call your local office or the contact number ASAP and explain the problem though...!

Due to the voting system in Germany, Governments are always made up of coalitions of different parties. At the last election, an almost unprecidented result saw the CDU/CSU (rough equivilant of the Conservatives) go into Government with the SPD (rough equivilant of Labour)

When I first read that, I thought your identity has probably been nicked. Check with your bank and with other government departments, DWP and DVLA spring to mind, as does the Jobcentre. Find out who you / this other git really is.

I hate HMR&C, and I'm a civil servant!

Hate it the most when someone once said to my face "I pay your wages!" I mean seriously. I pay my taxes too, chum. Now piss off!

I'd be more worried if you got a form for a "Mr P Ustinov"

As a local government manager, I prefer to tell the public in my meetings that I steal their Council Tax. :)

Well, i phoned them up and explained what had happened. They seemed very unconcerned and just told me to put the form in the bin.

Whats the going rate for a stolen identity nowadays? ££££££££££££!

LOL. What do you do? I reckon you should tell your bosses that in effect you are self-employed because you pay your taxes and anyone who pays their taxes obviously pays your wages. Do this and tell them you will be working from home in the future. ;)

Yeah pretty much. The civilians who work in each Government office. [en.wikipedia.org]

thanks Marc. i think my sister is one, and she might even work for HMR&C, as she used to be part of the Inland Revenue, but i have a feeling she told me the departments and names had changed a little while back.

Yeah it seems that the Inland Revenue and Her Majesty's Customs and Excise merged in 2005 to become Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs. Your sister could have been part of the IR and then become part of HMRC. [en.wikipedia.org]
