I haven't a clue about current laptops either, but if you're a fan of simple and practical with no flappy useless bits get a IBM you can't go wrong with those.

For gaming or just the average use (internet, email, creation of docs, etc)?

HP DV6000.

2gb RAM, Core 2 Duo, 15.4" screen, 100gb HDD, Remote Control, fantastic build quality and beautiful finish. Plays HL2 on full settings without any hassle.

Use the voucher code HPLOYALTY or HPXSMPR to get 10% off the HP store; yours for around £800. I bought one in December and use it as my main computer, highly recommended!

I don't know how much it is there in the UK, but my suggestion (if you are an avid GP4 Player) is to buy a Sony Vaio SZ series. It's the coolest looking laptop ever, and it has two graphics cards (The one that comes with the Centrino System) and an Nvidia card. You can choose which one you want to use with the touch of a button.

What is the point in that?

have a look at Dell's website, build your own. I'm looking to buy a new laptop soon, I'll be buying from them I think. Normally I build my own, but with laptops I'd rather have it built for me.

I'm with Zcott - what's the point in 2 graphics cards?

Why not just use the nvidia one all the time if its better?! Seems like features for the sake of it, not because its actually useful!

To save battery power when you do not need the power of the graphics card, probably.

The gaming aspect of them are shocking anyway - the nVidia uses shared memory (TurboCache) and are @#$%& slow as a result.

Also... you can get them in carbon fibre... they're gimmick laptops that cost twice as much as something of equivalent performance. You'd have to be made of money, or be OddMatter, to buy one.
