When did you guys become the master of what people could ask about and why? When did they have to send "letters of sworn truth" to you, to be allowed to acquire the knowledge they want, in the fashion they want to?

As far as I know, there are several people here that have multiple personalities, and the consensus is that as long as they are not used as tools of abuse, it is none of anybodies business. If we allow that, then wtf is it to you what madotter asks about?

A community will survive on truth alot more than lies and deciept. sure this isnt a huge thing in this case, but i was just curious to know as i found it extremly confusing considering the amount of threads from him about pc upgrades.

iirc lasse, you prefer the truth, so why jump down us? all we are doing is finding the truth.

i learnt a valuable lesson when i was young, lie's just make things worse, and in this case look what its done.

Yes, I like truth. I like it a damn lot. But I also value the sphere of personal privacy. If you look close enough, we all got some pretty weird sh!t going on in our lives. If madotter had made 5 different accounts no one would be the wiser (except perhaps a moderator looking at IPs), and believe me a lot of prominent members are doing just that!

That is their business, their sphere of privacy and I believe in taking a stand for that. Otherwise, this community will quickly be dissolved in those that people like and can do these things, and those people do not like, and get persecuted for whatever.

Whether I like madotter or not, or even approve of his actions, I simply cannot see he has done anything wrong, and thus I don't see just desert being dished out. To me it looks a lot more like tension from personal dislikes that are being released in a feud, that could quickly work it's way into a witchhunt... The other thread by Covfan and Gary42 only stresses that perception.

sure i have no problem with multiple accounts, and ppl having them, but when one forum member makes it that known its him, its a bit hard to go the privacy route here.. hell i have two accounts.

no he hasnt done anything wrong, except for call me a twat, no one has gone on a witch hunt here, i asked a question which is a valid question and others have backed it up. sure if it was another forum member it wouldnt be so quickly jumped apon, but im sure it would still be jumped apon.

Also, What Covfan did, he has done before iirc. and it was funny back then to.

You know, maybe we were kinda making the point that EVERY single thread mad otter creates leads to him lambasting and insulting people. Also the fact that they appear every couple of months and basically follow the same form is also quite hilarious.

I wasn't having a go at Iain, I was having a go at all the abuse he's received in this thread, as well as the numerous serious thread's created by MANY members of the community that turn into slanging matches - and showing how stupid and pointless it all is.

I was also procrastinating whilst tired and writing an essay.....

No it wasn't.

What a stroke of genius. Lambasting him right back is the way to go, yeah sure. You are no better than what you despise in him then. Grow up.

I find it rather weird that you and Covfan both did this, but totally disagree on the reason and perception of the situation. That aside, I totally agree with you.

lam·baste /læmˈbeɪst, -ˈbæst/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[lam-beyst, -bast]
–verb (used with object), -bast·ed, -bast·ing. Informal.
1. to beat or whip severely.
2. to reprimand or berate harshly; censure; excoriate.

Hmm, I didn't berate or mention him once in my spoof topic tbh.

OK, fair enough there was no need for me to call you anything. That part I accept and appologise for but if I make a thread everything 2 seconds, months or years its my choice. At the end of the day if you find it annoying that I come to the forum I enjoy for help then don't post in it at all.

And btw my TV is fantastic.

I ask the questions as hardware changes every 2 seconds and therefor I have new questions to ask, yes I could post in a PC building forum but I chose to post here as the info and advice I get (once filtered through the insults and pointless comments) is usually very helpful and accurate.

I can't speak for Mark's reasons for opening the thread and saying what he did, but I saw his opening as an excuse to have a go at some of the issues around posting in this forum at times. Iain isn't alone in the replies he receives, we see various sensible posts ruined due to what appear form the outside to be personal vendettas between members. This, as far as I am concerned, is not an acceptable situation - when someone asks for help sincerely (as Iain did), then calling him a liar and criticising him for asking for help too often is no answer. The same situation often occurs when people post an enquiry, only to be attacked with 'use the search button' and 'stop spamming'. As a community we should be trying to help one another, and if people have an issue with a thread, then ignoring that post would be better than shouting at the person involved.

rant over
