About bloody time IMO.

Everyone knows that million-to-one chances happen 9 times out of 10; indeed, it's a common requirement in fairy tales. If the human didn't have to overcome huge odds, what would be the point? Terry Pratchett - The Science Of Discworld

Never any question really. I just wonder if it was really worth it.

I'd rather he rot in jail.

I was expecting this, but still, if USA wouldn't go to war with Iraq and would let Sadam to rule his country more than 500000 people would still be alive.

By sentencing him to death all they do is lower themselves to his level. Better to let him rot IMHO

i'm waiting for the liberals to start posting about how that decision is infringing Saddam's human rights.

imho anyone found guilty of delibrate murder of an innocent should have their humans rights withdrawn immaediately and be shown the same amount of mercy they showed their victims.

exactly, although i agree that having him rot in a jail is more deserving than having a quick instant death.

and as you say LS, the world has gone crazy when burglars have their human rights to conduct their occupation (burgling peoples houses) infringed when the house-owner beats them up.

I find the death penalty intolarable, and I think in this case it will only help the cause of those causing trouble if he is killed. Life in prison would be better.

But comments like Anze's seem to suggest that Iraq was a nice place before it the war. It wasn't. Although the reasons for going to war were dodgy, if it had been given as to remove Saddam, i'd have been right behind them.

Due to the voting system in Germany, Governments are always made up of coalitions of different parties. At the last election, an almost unprecidented result saw the CDU/CSU (rough equivilant of the Conservatives) go into Government with the SPD (rough equivilant of Labour)

That's what's known as "punishment".

It's better (for the victims)/worse (for the criminal) if Saddam suffers in prison. The suffering he forced thousands of families to go through etc. By killing him, sure he won't get to do 'things', but its a happier end for him than life in prison because its over. He doesn't suffer.

If you kill him, he becomes a martyr

no hes doesnt.
most if not all of his supporters are dead.
i think your confusing saddams case with that of extremist muslims.

tbh i dont agree with the death penalty but with the pain, hurt and outright nonsense he has commited in his life ending it earlier than nature wants isnt altogether a loss to the earth.
If you imprisoned him for life your just wasting even more money that what has been wasted already

Th extremists will use him as a martyr - there entire campaign has been about anti-Western (especially American) feeling, rather than extremist Moslem views. In this situation, Saddam's death will be seen as an American-led decision, thus leading to him being seen as a martyr to the American interventionist policy

on Radio 2 today, they had a journailst who spoke to many people in Iraq, one woman said that Iraq was a better place while under Saddam's rule, so the man asked, "but he killed so many of his own people?!", but she replied "he only killed the bad ones".

You can't leave him alive in prison simply because of how many protests it would cause, him being killed is better in the long run.
