Logitech has finally answered the prayers of driving game fans the world over. At long last, the company has developed a racing wheel with a true 6-speed gear-shifter and clutch pedal. The G25 Racing Wheel will replace the Logitech Momo as the company's most advanced steering wheel peripheral, and makes a variety of advances in racing wheel design.
Most exciting is Logitech's implementation of an actual multi-gear shift system and clutch pedal. The shifter component mounts separately from the wheel for ease of positioning. Designed for a premium look, the unit is modeled in brushed metal and a leather boot. The unit can alternate between a six-speed slotted gear box or a BMW-style Tiptronic sequential shifter for games that don't support a clutch based shift system.
The wheel itself breaks new ground in technology and design. The hand-surface is wrapped in real leather, while the spokes are brushed stainless steel. The requisite 900 degrees of rotation are of course available, and the wheel is the first racing wheel to use two motors to power its force feedback mechanism. The effect, according to Logitech, is both more powerful and evenly balanced force distribution, and quieter operating noise.
The G25's pedals match the other components in quality and fashion with brushed metal. The G25's unique new features and design will come at a cost, however. The G25 will be available in October, and will carry an MSRP of $299.99.
