Robinson (Tottenham), James (Manchester City), Green (Norwich); G Neville (Manchester United), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Terry (Chelsea), Cole (Arsenal), Campbell (Arsenal), Carragher (Liverpool), Bridge (Chelsea), Beckham (Real Madrid), Carrick (Tottenham), Lampard (Chelsea), Gerrard (Liverpool), Hargreaves (Bayern Munich), Jenas (Tottenham), Downing (Middlesbrough), J Cole (Chelsea), Lennon (Tottenham), Rooney (Manchester United), Owen (Newcastle), Crouch (Liverpool), Walcott (Arsenal).

What is Walcott doing there? He has started just 13 professional games in his life, and never played a premiership match! I can't believe they are not taking Jermain Defoe. I wouldn't take Jenas or Hargreaves either, I'd take Ledley King and Darren Bent.

I agree with the first two points you made, but why not include Rob Green as the 3rd goalie? Chris Kirkland is no where near fully fit and Scott Carson hardly ever plays first team football. Rob Green is a quality keeper.

This is seriously awful. I thought Rooney being injured was bad enough for Sven has just killed it for us.

We had to take Defoe, Richardson, Bent, Wright-Phillips. They are all established players and at their best they're major threats. Walcott hasn't ever played a senior competitive match, and Hargreaves is useless! Crouch is the modern day Emile Heskey, Owen and Rooney are injured...so as it is we have one out and out forward - a 17 year old with no experience.

Sven said he can play Joe Cole as a forward. Erm since when? And that he left out Defoe and replaced him with Walcott illogically. This is crap!

Can Richardson play on the left?

Course he can, helps loads that he's left footed! For me he's been far more consistent this season than Downing. It's all a bit of a potential shambles.

In fairness to Downing, he was injured for about 5 months and immediately after his return, he has been fantastic, you see how he played in the UEFA semi finals? Incredible, his long ball extremely accurate.

But he's also a very good player in what's hardly a top notch squad. Richardson is playing for a top class team and he's producing game on game. Against Charlton yesterday he was easily the best player on the pitch...I just think it's strange not to take Richardson and to take people like Bridge, Walcott, Crouch, Hargreaves, Jenas etc etc

I'm a fan of Bridge but he's unfit and lacking match practice really, not on any sort of spectacular form either. Downing and Richardson could easily fill in at left back for Cole if needs be.

I wouldn't feel so sure about Downing or Richardson at left back. But Carragher can play there, so no problem.

Richardson played superbly I agree, his shot from what must of been thirty yards, almost shattered the crossbar!

Some extremely starnge choices in there! Maybe Sven knows he's on the way out the doro and wants to give Sweden the best possible chance of getting through?

I'll agree with Bent and perhaps Richardson too, but I'd take Aaron Lennon over Wright-Phillips every single time as things are. You need someone who can change games with a bit of magic, someone who has no fear. Lennon's in that zone at the moment. Wright-Phillips hasn't looked like it for the last season - he's had no end product to anything... it might be the same story with Walcott - that bit of youthful exuberance that can change games... if we've not got a clue about him (other than that he's aged 4 and is flipping quick), then how can the opposition prepare when he comes on in the 80th minute?

It's about time Sven was bold and adventurous, and I'm liking the look of that squad. We'll never win it, and with Rooney and Owen both out, it's barely even possible, but he's taken a punt on some fearless flair up front - neither of who might even get into the final squad, let alone ever start a match.

yeah I was surprised he went for Lennon and Walcott, they're certainly ones for the future, I think Defoe was one for now though and I think he should have been picked.

lol, i read somewhere that crouch was the 'key man' in the world cup for england, i never thought i'd read something like that

I would have picked Lennon, but not Walcott. Not even played a minute of Premiership football, as far as I know.

And Joe Cole was always an option for up front. But he wouldn't have been a full on striker. The idea was to play Downing on the left then someone up front with Cole behind them.

I'd say that Joe Cole will be their main man and not Crouch. Crouch is only good for hitting the ball long, tis all as far as I am concerned.

Hmm I'm keeping optimistic about it, we'll still have some of the best players in the world playing (Gerrard, Lampard, Terry..etc). I've never really rated SWP so i'm not too fussed that he's been left out, Bent's been pretty much on form in front of goal this season so you'd have thought he'd be in.

Ah well, still looking forward to it :D
