the theory goes like this,

if you need to brake and you use your right foot, you will stop giving the car gas right away when you lift, and then will brake, making it more effective.

With left foot, you could brake but still be accelerating for a moment, not to mention that (like Frentzen would do) by accident you could keep your foot rested on brake pedal, even if very gently, and slowly wear down the brakes.

first time i tried left foot braking i nearly went through the windscreen,i used to do it all the time but i ended replacing the front pads every 4-6 weeks so i decided to stop.

i prefer heel and toe braking but i cant do it in my car because my legs hit the bottom of the steering wheel:( but i blip the throttle when i change gears, for some reason it makes changes alot smoother

Something to do with matching the gearbox speed to the engine speed graham - i thought even you'd have known this ;)

Back on the subject of brakes, I either need to change my driving style, or driving into Manchester each day, and around Manchester several times a day really does bugger your brakes. My car went in for a service today and the report they gave me back after said the front brakes are 50% worn, rears 40% - I've only done 10300 miles :-o

You obviously need more rear bias ;)

Just skip the brake pedal and go for the engine brake or that thing you pull up to stop the car :p

Haven't you quite worked out how the hand brake slows the car down :P

do you left foot brake neil? because doing that eats your brakes.

Nope... cos then you can't use the clutch, and like you say you eat the brakes. All I can think of is constant stopping at lights.

When I go to Madrid the end of this month I will most likely be driving, and it will probably be a manual transmission car.

Kids, stay off the streets ;)

Sure it won't be non-automatic? ;)

@Glyn: Bet that does wonders for your suspension too ;)

Maybe it will be tiptronic ;)

I just hope traffic laws aren't too different, the whole driving is fine for me, I do it well, but first I must know that I'm not going to be a madman and the such :p

you DONT need the clutch! just blip the throttle on downshifts and she goes in nicely.

on a non releateed note, i belive my gearbox is f*cked.

Front brakes always tend to wear more than rear brakes glyndo... normal road cars tend to be biased more towards the front. 10,000 miles at half wear of a set of brake pads isn't exactly bad either! :P
