yeah, that's why it's called a "no claim discount/bonus", because they're supposed to lower your premium because you didn't claim, and the more years you have, the cheaper your insurance will get because it sort of proves you are a safe driver because you have not claimed.
that's why the 9 month policy doesn't seem like a good idea to me, because even though you are able to say "i have 1 years ncb", you haven't in reality, because your policy was only 9 months and not 12.
so you have to weigh up the options, to see if the 9 month policy, calculated up to 12 months, is cheaper than a standard 12 month one from someone else.
say it was £900 for 9 months, but £1000 for 12 months from somewhere else, the 12 month one is financially better for you, as you get 3 months more than the other one, for only £100 more.
but it's up to you how quickly you want the extra year ncb. if you really can't wait 3 more months, then go for the 9 month one, but it just seems like a bit of a scam to me, in an attempt to lure younger drivers to their company, when in fact they are getting conned because the policy for 9 months could be the same price as a 12 months one from another company.
i've actually got my sribblings on a notepad with my quotes from December '05 here. from RAC, they had the Rapid Bonus Scheme, £545 for 9 months. i asked what it was for 12 months, he said £707.
i finally got a premium of £568 from another compnay, for 12 months.
so for only £23 more, i got 3 months more cover.
so you can see, if you shop around, you'll eventually find a 12 month premium that can be not so much more than a 9 month rapid bonus scheme.
