There is no such thing as "chav", it's townie

nah, chavs and townie's are different.

townies are just those that hang around wearing tracksuits with rockport shoes on, with their trackie bottoms tucked into their socks, and hats at obscenely high pitched angles (peak points to the sky).

chavs are similar, but wear pringle and love cheapo jewelry.

maybe chavs are an evolution of townies, but IMO they're certainly not the same.

Yer but muks, my point is that the media made out that it was all something new etc, where as townies have been around for as long as I can remember probably and so the media tried to pretend it was such a "new threat" and made up the new word of "chavs" for it. Because of that I refuse to use the word.

i understand what you mean, they've (the media) latched onto a new fad they can talk about and use in their 'stories', whereas they never talked about regular 'townies' before.

i agree, that for 2005 the buzzword has been 'chav', with everyone talking about it thinking they're hip and street and 'down wit da kids'.

but i do feel there is a difference between them, or maybe what we describe as chavs are simply the same townies as before, but have evolved.

i like the word chav, it's funny.

chavs aren't though, they're idiots.

saw a program with jimmy carr on it, he said he thought chav was pronounced shav (as in really posh way of saying "ch";), and said "oh those people sound lovely, i'd like to meet one of them"... which amused me...

apparently the word comes from the latin word 'charva' (which some people actually use instead of chav) meaning small boy (help me Vader, i might be wrong, but thats what i heard).

but it amazes me how they think they look cool or hard wearing what they wear and acting like they do.

Yes, they seriously are - it's not evolved, it's the changing things of "coolness" - my little brother is a townie, I should know :-/
