On behalf of the Australians who take part in this thread.....

Who in the devil is Richard Whitely??? When I hear of the show "Countdown" it conjures up memories of a bizarre music show in the 70s/80s hosted by some homo named "Molly" Meldrum (those Australians living in those glorious years should hopefully be able to back me up).

RIP Richard (whoever you are) :(

@Eagle

Richard Whiteley was (:() the host of the Channel 4 quiz show Countdown, a numbers and words game that was the very first show on Channel 4 back in 1982, right up to now. in fact, there are about 5 episodes still to show that Richard fronted.

He was a legend to older people and students in particular, and was a major celebrity in Yorkshire for presenting the news show Calender - his two apperances in one evening giving him the name "Twice Nightly Whiteley."

He was an amazing man, who is greatly missed already :(

Due to the voting system in Germany, Governments are always made up of coalitions of different parties. At the last election, an almost unprecidented result saw the CDU/CSU (rough equivilant of the Conservatives) go into Government with the SPD (rough equivilant of Labour)

yeah, just imagine it, he was the very first face on Channel 4 back in 1982, and has been on it continuously monday-friday every week of every year ever since, until he missed 1 show last month, after 23 years.

It's upsetting, knowing that someone who has basically been on the TV every week since you've been born will never be on TV again.
