I think you have the wrong focus here. Its more that hes a fox hunt master, former Tory Parliamentary Candidate, and former speechwriter for Thatcher and Heseltine thats the problem.

Everyone who really enjoys stuff like this needs the head checked. ;) I cannot believe that people who have more than 2 brain cells actually care about BB. I mean, when you watch it at home in all privacy it's already bad enough, but at least nobody will notice what fool you are. But actually talking about it in public and thus telling the world you have really watched it - now that's disturbing.

wasn't the whole point of BB originally to see that no matter how rubbish the show appears to be, people will still watch it and become fascinated by it? some sort of social experiment or something.

Vader dislikes the show, yet continues to read and post on this thread ;)

But Vades, I think you're owed an explanation as to why I, myself, watch the show, in the hope that other viewers feel the same... basically, I'm defending Big Brother!

Agreed, it is a crap show full of talentless people, and the entertainment value is so low that it could almost be called a documentary. I certainly don't watch the show to amuse myself.

I also don't watch it specifically because there's some fit girl in there, or there's the possibility of someone having sex. People who watch it for this reason should get a life.

The reason I watch it? I've been interested in Sociology and Psychology for many years and took them as subjects during college. When I'm out, sometimes I like sitting back and just "people watching" - it's interesting to see how social interactions work in different situations. Big Brother is an extension of that - not only is it a unique situation to observe, the show takes all the interesting bits and compiles them into a 30-minute review, complete with being able to hear what they're saying! lol

Big Brother can best be described as "Nirvana for the bored sociological psychologist". I know not everyone watches it for that reason, but I'm certainly not ashamed of admitting I watch it, because it's for the reasons above.

The concept of the show is inhuman and degrading - no matter if people particpiate on their own free or not. It is against the categorical imperative of Kant and thus inacceptable for me or any humanist. I also think it's kind of cynic how the term "Big Brother" did apparently change in the mind of the people. People should Orwell to find out what it really stands for before misusing it for sheer entetainment purposes.

IIRC, it was an experiment to see how people would cope locked in a house with no contact the outside world
