I love football, it is my favorite sport by far and Formula 1 doesn't come near. I am also a great, passionate fan but that doesn't mean I fit the European stereotype (drunk, likes to fight, ignorant...).
I wouldn't get in a fight because of someone who is ignorant enough to first: try to pick a fight with me; second: try to do so by talking about sports.
The real fans don't get into situations that would hurt their team's image, a real fan cheers for the team, and despite them doing badly sometimes, they still cheer with hopes things will get better. And they also don't act like senseless ignorant stupid people and boo their players for whatever reason (yes, there are players who don't deserve much support, but that doesn't mean they aren't human and can't make mistakes).

one example:

Adriano played for Flamengo when he was younger than what I am now. Since his first game, I had faith in him. Well, he scored 2 beautiful goals and was a one-man show! He also went through rough times, as everyone does, but especially for being a teenager you have to understand he was still learning the game, different styles of play, and above all, would make mistakes.

Well, my team has the biggest fan base in the world, and when you are that big you have more chances of having stupid "fans." The kid was targeted at every chance possible, and the result was a guy who wouldn't want to leave the place that he loves but must do so because he just can't stand anymore. Result? He flourished into one of the top strikers in the world, making millions of dollars, and he is worth an incredible amount of money for his team, instead of the ridiculous 6 million dollars paid for him 4 years ago. Above all, he is happy and is supported by the fans. The Flamengo fans suffer because they lost a great player, and even though it was the fault of a diminute number of fans, it was enough. I blame those ignorant supporters for how football goes in my country.

And back to the point... what makes it even better is the possibility of emulating your idol, and taking part in the same sport, whereas in F1 only a very, very small number of fans can get into a car and drive to fulfill their dreams and emulating their idols.

Above all, doesn't matter what you like or dislike, it gives you no right to talk so much garbage about it.

I know a couple of football fans. They love football. It's great that they like football a lot. But they're just so dull and uncultured. ;)

Well, maybe I'll just look back at you ;-).

Hehe, well, about my team having the biggest fanbase, it is widely known - about 40 million people in Brazil alone, and many others spread out in the world. In Japan, people love Zico, and Zico (look up on google if necessary) was basically "born and raised" at Flamengo, thus the team that becomes popular in other nations must thank these players for it. In case you didn't know, it is Ronaldo's favorite team too.

Lastly... I am indeed an idiot! :( Can't vote yet.

gui, its not the biggest international fanbase though, id have though far more epople know of AC Milan/ Manchester United / Barcelona than flamengo.

Ask people in europe, africa/asia and 98% wont have a clue whereas probably 8% will know manchester united :

I find it hard, to be honest, Chris. But if you want to base it on registered fans, or something like it (let's say fans who are members of the club, or registered online), than it is Barcelona FC, they have reached the 100.000 people mark!

When the Pope went to Brazil in 1980, he wore the Flamengo jersey, for example. And as I posted in other topics (like the one about the team's supported), we won the world club title humiliating Liverpool the year after. But anyways, I don't mind much about the world knowing my team, what I care about is knowing how much support there is in the only country that matters, for that aspect: Brazil. It's just such an undescribable feeling when I watch videos of some games from the 80s or early-mid 90s and the stadium is packed, with flags, flares... beautiful!

Hm, Why do people have to go into a thread, with a title where they arent interested in the subject of it and fill the thread with rubbish about how they dont like it, seems pointelss and a waste of time to me.
