I went to my local model shop today in the hope they'd have some Lewis showcars, i wanted to buy a few (if they were around £25) then sell 'em on ebay. people are going nuts over them, look: [
search.ebay.co.uk]
I've wasted a lot of money on models over the years, I thought it'd be good to recoup some of that spendage.
but they didn't even sell 1:43 models anymore. after searching almost every inch of their shop, the staff were getting suspicious and mumbling to each about me (i heard one say to the other "he's just wandering around, must be looking for some obscure model"
, so i asked one of them if they still sold 1:43 F1 cars.
his reply: "we could no longer compete in that market because F1 died a death a few years ago because Schumacher made F1 boring with his winning spree, so interest in 1:43 models dropped so we had to stop selling them."
what a load of bollocks! so this guy is blaming Schumacher's success for the decline in sales of 1:43 models? even if it was boring, people still have favourite drivers and buy their models (Kimi, Alonso, Button, whoever) so this is not a valid argument, IMO.
and Schumacher's last boring season was 2004. we've had fantastic seasons in 2005 and 2006 in comparison with '04, so the slump in sales should have reversed by now.
and it's not as if their shop was jam-packed with Schumacher models when they stocked 1:43s anyway, so again his argument isn't valid.
what an eejit.
they did have a few 1:18 models on sale though, mostly Hotwheels but some Minichamps too. they had Da Matta and Salo Toyotas, Ralf and JPM Williams, a couple of 2000 and 2001 Jaguars, a few Kimi McLarens and some more i can't remember, mostly £20 but a couple of the Minichamps ones were around £24. i considered buying a few and selling them, but there's probably not much profit to be made so not worth the hassle.
RIP Jules, never to be forgotten. #KeepFightingMichaelEdited 1 time(s). Last edit at 07/11/2007 07:46PM by Muks_C.
