Do you need a dvd re-writer to do all this? Or can you use a CD Re-writer?

Depends what you mean by all this.
You can burn VCDs with CD burner, but you need DVD burner to burn DVDs.

Nero 6 Ultra Edition does also burns DVDs. You can make your own menus there, too.

I've found the Ulead stuff pretty good too. They do a basic and advanced version and its probably the only program I've never had playback issues with either.

It also converts clips too which is handy, although I guess other software does too.

right i clocked it! just use intervideo windvd creator 2! excellent prog. import as many files as you want (all types) and then create scenes and chapters, transitions, etc. and then burn!

p.s. you can only use cdr/cdrw for vcds. apparently dvdr/dvdrw wont allow you to put a vcd on it!

id say it would depend on if your DVD burner could burn CD's or not, mine does but i havent tried it yet.

As can I, it's a simple case of selecting "CD" instead of "DVD" in the menu.

Why? Isn't VCD just normal CD with data burned to it?
