Dunno really, i'd love to do it, but it'd cost abit, and then after that what next? It gets more expensive. The best thing to do over here, is try and get into Formula Ireland, the prizes are F3 tests and Formula Renault test, which is serious business >>> Formula Ireland site [www.formula-ireland.com] <<<

There seems to be a lot of kart tracks opening up around the place, but there is only two motor racing circuits in

@ The Lopper : Never go to Watergrasshill, went there twice last year. first time was unbelievable me and 2 others had a fantastic time trading times but i won by 0.04xsecs :D But then the 2nd time was a total disaster, out of the 3 of us, one of us got a kart so slow it was being lapped every lap nearly and then i got a kart that had a brake failiure half way thru my stint, wasnt fun :P

I had a kart with brake failure the first time I went karting - was fun trying to slow for the hairpin when I realised I had nothing but a slide to help ;)

Seriously good fun, if not the fastest way - just chuck the thing into the hairpin and hope it stuck :)

Orpheus you're back!!!

Never been to watergrasshill, ever been to Kilcornan in Limk, they give you vets overalls and they use silage bales as barriers. Otherwise a pretty boring track, Kiltorcan in Kilkenny is brilliant, i'd recommend you go there if you are ever in Kilkenny.

Around how much would it cost per annum to compete in karting championships?

too much ;)

we're looking at £10k+ next season for a 6-round national championship, and that is very very cheap compared to the rest :P

(tho at lower levels its a lot cheaper, and has more racing)

At that level, tyres every round, engine rebuilds every round, accomodation, travel costs, entry fees etc. In Australia, to compete in the CIK rounds, the running costs are about AUD$5000 per round.

with it being so expensive to kart these day why dont you just skip karting alltogether and spend that 5k per round to buy youre self a seat in fford , frenault or the like it works out cheaper.

That's exactly right. I was thinking of racing in Formula Vee, next year having never raced in my life, but when you are new, and dont know how far you can push yet, you are far better to crash at 125km/h (Kart) than to crash at 235km/h (Formula Vee). FFord goes even faster. Plus, you can buy a whole kart and Rotax engine for that money. If you prove to be shite at racing, you've spent 5000, and you still have a kart to race for at least the next couple of years. FFord, youve got nothing and you've spent 5000 with nothing to show. Karts are the best starting point IMHO.
