actually tux it makes alot of difference. 20 degrees off the cpu temp from 60 to 40 i think is farly significant wud you not say? better case cooling will improve the cooling further obviously.

Those chips look shite anyway.

You'll never ever get 20 degrees off with a standard cooler - maybe 10 at most, and more likely 5. The Zalman Flower is very much the exception to the rule - in that it sits approximately several thousand feet about the heatsink.

Generally you shouldn't need a fan at the front of the PC. Basic physics suggests that whatever is blown from the case must be brought in at some point, realistically from lower than the exhaust point, if there are any holes to draw air from.

All a fan at the front does is draw and direct that air more precisely, and if in front of hard drives, cool those.

if u have just one fan sucking air out you'll create negative pressure in the case and dust starts to get sucked in through all the small holes and cracks in the case alot more then usuall.

You always have one fan pushing air out - the PSU fan, so nothing new there ;)

95% of cases don't have dedicated exhaust or intake fans.

I have 2 exhaust fans, 1 at front, one on cpu, yet still 52 C and up to 55 under load :|P 2000. Is that bad?

You need a motherboard that has a temperature sensor for the processor. Most decent ones do, and you should be able to view it in the BIOS or through any software your mobo came with.

my XP2000 ran at the same temp as my XP2600. Doesnt seem to make any difference about the speeds, but XP CPUs seem to run about the same

Download AIDA32 it'll tell you everything you'll ever need to know, inc temps.

I'd settle for 10 degrees cooler to be honest.

The big problem is that whenever it gets too hot, a failsafe system kicks in and shuts the PC down. "Good Idea" you may say, but it gets a little trying sometimes when I'm playing games - especially ones with fixed Save points.

i find that taking the heat sink off while the cpu is under load. touching the cpu and holding ure hand on there as long as possible is a good way. if u take it off really quick then u need better cooling :)
